Smart ReLink Issues and Problems?

I don't know what I did but I'm going through "Getting Results with MediaStudio Pro 8" and basically, I have to load files here and there to complete exercises. (Specifically, .avp files).

Anytime I load these files, it tells me that "Some files have been updated by Smart Relink" and I hit OK.

When I go to my Project Tray > Media Bin > Videos or Images or Audio, the videos are fine but some of the thumbnails in, let's say, Images or Audio has a big X on it as if it isn't available. I know these are available because I have done the exercises before. Something seems to not be linking correctly.

What is going on?

I've had that happen, what I done was click on one of the thumbnails, and got the relink prompt. I then had to navigate to where the file was to relink it. Then it was fine for awhile.

It seemed that when doing the exercises, MSP8 would occassionally forget where they are..

I'm trying to get it relinked as you have stated above. However, nothing prompts me.

I even went to Tools > Smart > Smart Relink and nothing happens. I don't know what I did.

Any other ideas?

This is a good reason why I avoid using Project Tray or Production Library (except for effects, of course). Just create a project directory (folder) and work straight to and from it. Far less frustrating. Apart from that, it is quicker avoiding shortcuts.

I'm presuming then that this is a bug....

No way to fix or correct it?

I suppose it might be. I have made my views known during beta testing various versions, but I've never pursued it, because there is a much easier and faster MO that doesn't use these stupid "libraries".

1) This bug is even mentioned in getting results (page 440). Maybe that it is fixed with the sp, but that the bug was corrupting project files. So since the project files of the book are allready corrupted even sp will not bring them back.
2) I solved the problem for me by deleting the x-icons and reimporting the videos / images from the chapter directory.
3) Chapter 9 page 252 uses a uis-file. I didnt find any way to repair it.

It means working simply from a directory, like you would with Word or any other application.
