MSP 8 SP1 can't process .MOV files on timeline

Post by dennisbthomas »

Using MSP8 with SP1;

1. Can't correctly playback on the timeline a .mov (QT) file from a digital camera. The properties of this file are: format: 24bits (640x480); compression MPEG-4. Works ok when played back in the insert video menu.

2. Using another program I created an .avi file of the .mov file.

3. Using the .avi file from item 2 (format: 24bits (720x480), 4:3; compression: DV Encoder Type1) I created, using MSP8.1, a .mov file: format: 24bits (720x480); compression MPEG-4. This new .mov file plays ok on the timeline.

Has anyone seen this type of problem with Quicktime files?
Thanks

It seems a bit much having to pay for an MPEG-4 plugin when VideoStudio users get it free. I could understand if the cheap program users had to pay for an add-on that is included in the expensive program but this is not the case with VideoStudio and MediaStudio Pro. That's a shame.

Darren,
I couldn't agree with you more.

H.T.
Are you suggesting that the MPEG-4 Plugin is THE only solution to my problem?

If so, I couldn't disagree with you more.

The proper functioning of QT files on the timeline used to work in previous versions of MSP and I don't remember any statement from ULEAD saying that they were going to abandon the proper functioniong of QT files on the timeline.

Also, the writeup of the MPEG-4 Pluging talks only about creating MPEG-4 files. I'm not trying to create MPEG-4 files; just read them.

In addition, I didn't have any problems creating an MPEG-4 file from an AVI file that was a recreation of the orginal QT file by another software program.

I'm confused now! Is this a bug or not?

Thanks

I'm sorry for not reading your post more carefully. Yes, the MPEG-4 plug-in is for creating MPEG-4 video files (.mp4 or .m4a).

For MPEG-4 QuickTime movies from digital camera, I can play mine in MSP 8 SP1 well. However, it might be possible you still get a problem on that. Maybe I can check it for you if you can find a place to let me download it. How large is the file?

Again, sorry for the misleding.

Best regards,

Hi H.T.

I can send you a file that is 1.6MB via email if that works for you.
Let me know the address.

Thanks
