VS9 Crashes when loading

Post by powerbomb1411 »

Alright, let me say first off i am not a pc geek (geeks are not a bad thing i'm a comic geek). Now after saying that all I can tell you about my pc is that it's running win XP, 512mb ram and 80 gig hard drive. That is all I know.

I have the full version of VS9 and have gotten tech support with no help in solving the problem.

Now VS9 was working fine for me. But all of a sudden it stopped working, well I would try and start it up and then it would give me and error report. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it multiple times.

They told me to do the following things.
clean out the registry
Problem still their.
Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Option->View and check 'Show hidden files and folders' and uncheck 'Hide protected operating system files'. Go to your c: drive. Right click on the boot.ini file and go to Properties (you should uncheck Read-Only if it's checked). Then double click on the boot.ini file to open it. Change the line that says /NoExecute=OptIn and change it to /NoExecute=AlwaysOff. Now save the file, close it, then restart.
Then they sent me a new copy, I wasn't sure what that was supposed to do, that was the second copy I had gotten.

-----------------

Now the problem still exists. Anyone have any solutions? I really like the software but for the problems I have had with this i am feeling like i have gotten a cheap expensive piece of garbage.

Firstly was the uninstall procedure the same as thisone?
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 4223#54223

Then
check the windows Event Log:-
START | RUN dialog box
%SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s
and press enter.
Now check the following two folders
Application
System

You will find a red circle with a white cross inside. Double click to open it and there you will find a link
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
This link also contains some hidden code apertaining to your error.
Double click and you will then be given more detailed information and possible cures.

That was the same thing I was told. And the other things were sort of confusing and didn't lead to a driect answer to the solution so i tried the steps they said for XP and those didn't work either.

This is leading me to belive that the only way to get it fixed will to bring it into a place that spcialises into fixing bugs, it's making me belive it's not a coinsidence that my webcam stopped working all of a sudden and frezzes when i try to re-install it. Not to mentions the fact that my pc is having issues with the dvd player as well.

So are their any other things that might fix the ulead issue or should I bring it into the shop?

Aha now you're revealing more things pointing towards the problem!
Have you had a sudden mains power failure recently?

Firstly run a virus checked though I suspect it is more likely to be corruption on the hard drive.

Next try (you will need your XP disc handy)
[Start] [Run] [sfc/scannow]

If that doesn't work then
[Start] [Run] [Cmd]
Then ....
chkdsk /r

You then have to re-boot the computer and the check carried out may take a couple of hours.

Well their might have been one power failuer, it was a weird one though, it was quick enough that eveerything went off and right back on it wasn't even half a second, but I have turned off the pc more then once before it was ready because everything had froze up.

Now my questions is what XP disc?

I have an application disc, I have a Drivers And Utilities and I have an operating system?

And thanks so much. Hell this is the first confident responce i have gotten to the issue.

The XP Disc is your Windows XP Installation disc.
The problem with power failures is that most times you are lucky and no damage is done but sometimes the damage can be fatal.

I recently had to go out and purchase a new replacement hard drive as a result of a series of power cuts.

Ever wondered why we have to "Shut down" our computer instead of just hitting that big on/off switch? this is because various things are stored in RAM and various hard drive caches. All this stuff has to get written to the hard drive before you can power off. That though isn't the big problem - there is an even bigger one.

Just sit back and watch your computers hard drive lights for a few minutes - see how it keeps blinking on/off. This is the computer reading and writing to the hard drive. The problem comes if the power suddenly goes off whilst data is being written and you end up with
Schubert: Symphony No.8 "Unfinished" or put another way half a sentance.

Most times this again doesnt mean total disaster though obviously there will be some loss of data. Sometimes though that power loss may take place when the computer is writing to a critical part of the Hard Drive such as directory information keeping track of where everything is located on the hard drive.

I've been reading this message thread with great interest. I think VS is the software I'd like to buy but:
Installed the first time and worked very well including edit and DVD burn.

Now am having a problem during loading:
1 Select edit from the first screen,
2 VS splash screen pops up
3 Edit screen opens behind splash screen
4 Before splash screen is done, cursor gets an hour-glass
5 Get Microsoft screen notifying user of the need to shutdown application due to serious error, do you want to send report to Billy Gates?

I have tried the uninstall procedure referred to here "phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?p=54223#54223". [SJJ, you must have a ton of experience using this series of sw.] BTW there was no entry in the registry to fix.. and I looked for both the ver. 9 and 10 folder names, neither is there.
After having executed the uninstall procedure, I still get a sound quicktrack install message during XP startup [while all the other stuff is getting opened-antivirus,...]
I think if I could really do a complete uninstall, it would install and run okay.
Got any ideas?? thanks for sharing your intellectual wealth.

Hi Jon,

I thought I would jump in and add a tidbit..
BTW there was no entry in the registry to fix.. and I looked for both the ver. 9 and 10 folder names, neither is there.
I've found that also. To me, that means that at least Ulead or Windows managed to remove it. It should remove everything on untinstall but doesn't...

[while all the other stuff is getting opened-antivirus,...]
You might want to consider setting up a seperate profile for video editing. This does seem to help, to not have all the un-need apps loading up when it is not neccessary. Steve put together a great tutorial on Creating a Video Editing Profile. You can read it here:

Sorry for any confusion regarding the folder locations for VS10

After the initial post I created a cumulative one for all the Ulead applications that I have managed to obtain the detailed information for. It's a bit further down the same thread and is found here:
