My MF 4.0 was working fine a few days ago. I was successful in converting avi's to disc but now, all I get is errors about 25 minutes into the process. I did change the CBR to 2 pass VBR @ 9000kbps max but as you can see with the errors below, it's invalid. I changed it back to 7000kbps without success. I've tried the update for 4.0 WinXP but it still stops with the message "MF has encountered an problem and must close".
I'm wondering since when I click the customize button, it mentions there are overlapping items. I just don't see any. When I click on the button types during layout selection, I then move the buttons up and out of the way of the moving menu chapters. I have a feeling these buttons somehow get reinserted underneath my chapters somehow.
The extra buttons usually disappear in setup since they're not needed for successive pages.
Seems I've read that aps don't like DV-type1 video, either.
I've since repaired the install but if this isn't fixed, I'll obviously have to dump the whole program.
I can't tell if it's complaining about the input format, or the output format.
It appears to be complaining about the input format, but those errors should never be caused by an AVI/DV file (unless it's corrupted, like maddrummer said). For example DV has a fixed bitrate, so there's no minimum/maximum bitrate setting. The only way the framerate could be off is if it's PAL instead of NTSC. Are you sure you didn't capture to AVI/MPEG or AVI DivX, or something like that??? An AVI/DV is about 13GB per hour. If it's less than that, it may have been accidently converted to a more-compressed format.
If you choose your project settings from one of the supplied disc templates, the output format should be OK.

No...The dv-avi's are ok...Matter of fact, I edited them in MSP7.
I casually looked down the error report but I couldn't c & p it.
It had more but it doesn't make sense anyway.
Only think left to do is uninstall a encoder I just installed when this mess happened.
Thx
I just checked the avi's for errors and it claimed it had over 1000 for 20 minutes of video.
They all play in wmp but there's one that crashes DivFix with "I/O error 112"
Anyone know what that's all about? Didn't find anything on the web.
Thx
They're straight DV.
DivFix is an ap that supposedly fixes errors. This is where the error occurs (I/O error 112). I was hoping this was related to my problem of MF stopping on me.
I've read up a lot here but not much pertained to MF and my prob (win installers, etc, etc)
I've just read the idea of system restore and noticed all my restore points save 2 hours ago are all gone.
Something, perhaps from free/demoware, may be the prob.
Thing is, I've already uninstalled what I put in back to last Saturday when this all started.
I'm sure I'll probably find it....eventually...but I really can't wait and will be trying more authoring aps.
What's the encoder you've removed? It might also remove some codec pack that works with the AVI.

Yep...they all say DV-Open DML and Sony Video Codec
I ran ad-aware, too.
I'll try removing the file from MF and see if it burns
Then I'll know if it's this particular file
Thx
PS - I open it in Gspot and it says:
Open DML
File truncated
66.8kb are missing
