Hi, I tried to enter some french in my subtitles. I used
Times New Roman (Mitteleuropäisch)
Mitteleuropäisch=Central european or similar
I had the text in a txt-File and copied it by copy/paste. Most characters arrived OK, but è and œ did not. So I tried the codes of the different ISO-8859 charactersets, but none worked. What character set does DVDW uses?

Character Set for Subtitles

1. Use Western character sets. I have often used French and Greek s-ts. Strangely enough, French is a Western language. I've just typed in, as a test for confirmation: àâçéèêôù with no problem
2. I do NOT recommend TNR as typeface, no matter the font. You will always get "serif-wobbling". Use Arial.
3. Note that some text editors are not very good with characters with diacritical marks (including NotePad) because they sometimes do very peculiar things. I suggest you use WordPad and save in RTF; this seems more reliable than txt, or type in directly.

Check the DVDWS update packs if you are using DVDWS 2, there is a character set fix for subtitle editing and a tip for subtitle editing.
