How to combine two projects

Post by Rowena »

PLEASE HELP :(

I have two projects as VSP files (captured and edited from two DV tapes). I would like to open part one and insert part 2 after it to make one full holiday film. How do I do this? I have added transitions, text and music audio.

Thanks in advance, Rowena UK.

You cannot add two .vsp files together - what you need to do is to "Share >> Create Video File" and create two .avi files - then create a new project and import your two .avi files into it and edit as you wish.

Edit - just realised that you didnt want to do any further editing - in which case follow Johns recommendation below.

Rowena,
Just make a mpeg2 video file of each project (SHARE/Create Video File). Then select New Project. Then SHARE/Create Disk. Then select Add Video File to place each of your two project video files in the SHARE timeline. Set your BURN properties to match your video file properties, make your menus and burn.

Be sure to follow the Recommended Procedure (top post).

Thanks

Thanks Brian and John. Whilst waiting for a reply, I started to add everything back in to the library to redo part 2 in part 1, but I think you have a quicker suggestion. Thanks for helping me out. I'm not the only one not partying on a Fri night then!
Rowena.

Well I'm not - but I should think where John is it's still the middle of the day - he's still got time yet.

That's a odd limitation to have you would think that they would make a feature such as that available.

@ Rowena

I can import multiple .vsp files into MSP but I can't create a .vsp. I'm wondering if the files are interchangeable and simply changing the extension to .vsp would work. My next thought is will it work without the source files. If you want to try a test e-mail me the two .vsp files and I'll give it a try. Probably won't work but I would like to give a try.

No good mailing the .vsp files without also mailing all the video files, audio clips, titles etc. - .vsp files do not stand alone - they are just instructions to UVS as to which bits to use and in which order.

I believe Rowena will have solved her problem now using Johns suggestion..

Yes I know exactly what they are, but when a file source file isn't available I can still import the project file. I was just curious as to whether or not the .dvp and .vsp files were in fact the same type of file. It appears it isn't possible anyway because it won't let me insert additional project files until I relink the one with the missing source.

I guess VS8 allows you to add entire project in share->create disk option.

Mosanj,
Don't ever select SHARE/Create Disk/Add Projects because it will trigger the Video Studio bug that forces the unnecessary conversion of videos that are already compliant. This frequently unleashes a host of other bugs.

What about Share/Create Disk/Add Video? I gather that might be the only way to get more than one item to appear on the Main Menu? (I am using VS7 SE.)

I'd suggest you experiment and find out what does or doesn't work.

Doug,
Share/Create Disk/Add Video works fine! It is highly recommended.

If you had source videos ,project files and your ouput settings were all the same does it still do that?

Yes, adding projects in the Share/Create Disk module triggers the same bug as Share/Create Disk does with anything in the timeline. You can have perfectly matching properties but VS will sit there and grind for hours and usually create DVD beer coasters...

This is one of the most serious traps facing new users. I have requested Ulead fix this problem numerous times over the past 18 months. All of should bombard Ulead Tech Support and Customer Service with complaints.
