You don't have to have VS9 installed to install VS10+. When you install VS10 you will be asked for the new serial number and then for the serial number of VS9, if everything is kosher it will install.
The download files total about 700 Meg, could differ a little because I think they changed the bonus files, because of duplication.

Although it's not required, you may want to have VS9 installed in order to transfer much of it's content over to VS10. Here's a link to an excellent tutorial that explains all:

Hi Chris,
The main program file is 135 MB, however there are additional files. The 700 MB is the total of all files. My recommendation to anyone on dial-up is to buy the box version. Dial-up would take too long, thus increasing the risk of corrupt files. Some ISPs are bad about kicking people off if they have been connected too long..

Yes, that's correct. Ulead is using a new system to verify your qualification for installing an upgrade version. The installer now requires you to type in your registration keys from VS9 **and** VS10. Once these keys have been accepted the VS10 upgrade can be installed.
We all like to keep our computers clean but be aware that there are LOTS of menu templates and other content in VS9 that are NOT included in VS10. If you want to transfer these to VS10 you'll need to have VS9 installed on your computer. Once you've finished transferring the content you can remove VS9. Having both versions installed at the same time doesn't cause any system conflicts.

It's not that I don't believe the information here because I have learned a lot from these forums. However, it is interesting that the following is posted when I go to the upgrade page for version 10:
This upgrade can only be purchased directly from Ulead. Upgrade is not available in retail stores.
A non-trial version of one of the above products must be installed on your system in order to install the Upgrade version. If you only have the free trial version of one of the above products, please purchase the full version .
As you can see it says you have to have a non-trial version of a qualifying product INSTALLED on your system. It also asks you to enter your qualifying serial number on the order page to verify qualification.

Your point is well taken however I suspect Ulead needs to update the info. The upgrade scanerio you quoted was in fact correct up until they released the latest versions of MovieFactory and VideoStudio. My comments were based upon my own installation experience but if you're concerned, why not leave VS9 on your computer during the the upgrade and remove it afterward? As I mentioned earlier, both versions can co-exist on the same PC and uninstalling one of them at a later time does not damage the other.
