Hi,
I will try to duplicate that on a system using a JVC camcorder.
I will re-read your original post to use the same settings.

Hi,
Yes, the program does exactly as you say.
This may be a bug.
But, when capturing and working with DV the project settings should
be set to DV(Type X). Set that under the compression tab.
I would disable the "Show messages thing" because there's only two
formats to choose (type1 or type2).
You can also disable linking to the library and drag the clips from the
timeline to the library. That's how I use to do it because I would always
forget to set the active library I wanted before capturing (DA!). Then they
would be mixed with the default library.
I did notice that while monitoring the disk file sizes that hitting STOP on
the camcorder would stop VS from recording. Then I hit the stop icon
in the recording menu which then did it's thing of adding the clips etc.
That may be a workaround for you for now, hitting stop on the camcorder.
The last scene was good even though I stopped the camcorder and it
stopped recording right on that frame. Disk file size stopped growing
which means the file was still open and then when I hit stop the
files data strem was closed.
I wouldn't go through the trouble of downloading a trial version.
The program is doing exactly as you said.
VS8 is a nice DV editor. Can't beat the price.
Export the DV file back to tape or directly to a desktop Dvd recorder.
Hope this helps.

Big thanks for the reply maddrummer.
The workround you suggest should be ok, although the system should perform without going to these measures.
Again, If i capture using Vs 7 all is well, so why doesn't VS8 do the same.
Another property i use is 'auto insert transitions' this may also through up a warning window which delays the clips being inserted to the timeline. Capture is terminated but the camera continues to roll. If i am not watching the process the camera will play to the end of the tape. (not acceptable)
Thanks again
