Smartsound was slowing the preview of my project. After doing a search on the forum I found a Smartsound update link which I downloaded. It being late I may have said yes to things I shouldn't have in the process. Now when I try to open my project I get these messages:
The StringPak "WMessage.cpp" could not be found in the string database
LIBGR_CANNOT.OPEN_LIBRARY_DATABASE
Please insert SmartSound CD and relink the clip later
When I go to auto music everything is grayed, and I can't find the SmartSound music anywhere. My project wont open and I have to open task manager to close VS
Bad to worse Smartsound problem in VS9

Since nobody else has suggested anything, hit it with a hammer - do a complete uninstall of whatever version of VS you have and re-install it.
I can't remember the details for uninstall - search the forum, because people have found that just using Windoze Add/Remove Programs doesn't always clean out things enough for a fresh install to work - but by all means try that approach first as it may be quicker
