PI8 opens, then experiences problem and must shut down

My software was working fine (for years), then I noticed I no longer had EyeCandy available in Effects, so I reinstalled it (and it said it was already installed). From then on, I can start up PI8, but then I receive a message that PI8 has encountered a problem and must close. No error code. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling, but I'm still having the same problem.

Thank you for any help you may have to offer.
