Think I've seen that it does ignore the MV before, interesting. Especially if you want to backup old commercial VHS tapes. The ADVC on the other hand doesn't ignore MV except for the earlier models where it could be disabled via holding down the input selector. I have a new 110 I haven't tried to see if that "hack" still works, no reason because I have a full frame TBC.

Most of the internal cards have a TV tuner, so you can watch TV on your computer, or use it as a TiVo.
Hardware MPEG advantages: I don't have any problems with dropped-frames, etc.


The ADVC will work on just about any system with 0 dropped frames and sync loss in the capturing stage. If you drop frames using a ADVC there isn't anything that's going to help you short of capturing really low resolution AVI or using a harware based encoder. That is one of there selling points and why it is praised by it's users.

The ADVC-100, 110, and 300 can all bypass MacroVision. They don't do it by default, and the setting to disable MV is not saved when the device is turned off.
