eps file compatibility
Does anyone know where I can find out why PI will open some but not all eps files? I have tried search this forum but there was no current data. I am not disturbed that a file does not open but I would like to know what type of eps files I need to work with.

I don't know this for certain because I haven't done extensive testing, however, I suspect Ulead PhotoImpact can only open .EPS files that were created from "bitmap" source files.
In other words, Ulead PhotoImpact possibly *WON'T* know what to do with vector-based .EPS files... such as .EPS files created from vector graphics programs such as Corel Draw, Adobe Illustrator, or Macromedia Freehand.
Those programs utilize LINES AND POINTS to create their graphics... not bitmaps.
If the .EPS comes from a program such as Corel Photo-Paint or Adobe Photoshop, then I suspect Ulead PhotoImpact would be able to open it.

My question is why doesn't Ulead tell us this somehwere or when I asked them directly. Is it pride or a reluctance to say all files types of a certain type react the same way. I guess I experience this with other packages also I think people should realize that just because a software doesn't do something doesn't make it a weakness just a limitation. The weakness is not sahring the data with users.

I will tell what it was like when I programmed. Our support staff was off the street and read from a computer screen when support and diagnostics were necessary. The only people whom new anything was the software engineers. You would play Hell ever getting to an engineer; their time was too precious to spend time answering support calls. One rule when asked a question you don’t know, be positive, that means never saying anything does not work or is not supported.
When guides and more are created, written, it is not one person who does the work it is teams of people. Everything comes down to money, what will go and what has to be left behind. That also goes for programming and what is put in the software. It is more important to have new features to sell to the Consumer, than it is to update old ones.
I know people get upset because they do not get what they want, but sometimes things are left out because they have to be, and sometimes they just get lost on the priority list. This is generally true for the industry as a whole.
I cannot say what Ulead’s reasons for anything are, but this is how it was when I was in the business. I do know one thing, if you holler loud enough to Support they just might fix it. One thing I can assure you is be courteous whether you want to be or not, and not vitriolic when trying to get a change, there is nothing more frustrating to a software engineer who works 24/7. A nice request with an explanation of what the change can do for you and possibly others, will get the attention of the right people. The other way around and it is a good chance it will hit file 13.

I wish I had a quick solution, but unfortunately do not. I just plug away at Support and put in my monthly request for the same change. Two out of three times it has worked.
It would seem that Ulead is trying to do too much. Being a catchall program for everyone is difficult. I have to accredit some of these problems to Microsoft and their paranoia for Security, a program that acts more like quicksand than dry land.
I can only hope it all improves. Gosh, now I am so depressed I think I will go play around with VUE.
