Audio problem with SOME dolby digital files

Post by Bud Fox »

Hello all,

I've been holding back on asking this, hoping that the new SP1 would fix the problem, but no such luck.

I've got a few projects where I've inserted MPG video/audio clips. They are DD 5.1 clips. A few of them have a really bad stutter problem (they are really barely recognizable.) But others play just fine.

In one case, the audio portion was split from the video and the video deleted. On others, they are still combined. The video clip doesn't seem to be stuttering. I've messed a little with the project settings and haven't been able to fix it.

Additional Information: When I double click to go to the source file, the audio is fine. One of these is a new project I created just to test this out. I imported 7 clips. 5 play fine, 2 don't. Another project is an older one from MSP7 that worked fine in 7, but when I opened it in MSP8 (I just upgraded a few weeks ago), one clip had this audio problem.

The clips say Format: Dolby Digital Audio, Attributes:48000hz, 5.1 channels.

Also, when I right click on these audio clips, there is no audio filter option (it's greyed out). On the one clip from MSP7, it contains an amplifying filter. When I delete that, the clip stops stuttering, but it's so low, I can barely hear it. And I can't add another audio filter. (But that doesn't seem to be causing the problem, because the other projects have no filters in them).

I'm using Windows XP, Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz with 1 gb of RAM and a 120 GB hard drive (about half full).

Sorry for rambling on, but a lot of questions here get a response of "Give us more information!"

Thanks,

Bud

I'll make a stab in the dark. When you encode DD, you have a choice of bitrate. If the bitrate is incorrect, then I could imagine something may get upset. Just a guess, though.

When I open the file in either DMF5 or Video Capture, it says it 448kbps. I've tried my project settings at that and several others, and it doesn't change the result. (I run it through either of those to turn the .vob file into an mpeg.) The mpeg file plays correctly in the source window, however.

Any why can I not put audio filters on any of these, even the ones that work correctly? Is it an mpeg issue or a dolby digital issue? (And it all worked fine in MSP7, so I don't think it's the source files.)

Thanks,

Bud

I can't help at the moment, but I don't understand how you have a 5.1 file from v. 7 nor, for that matter, your other source files.
