I am using trial for VS 10 and have encountered a problem while assembling a project out of several clips from a larger file. The large file is from a dvd recording of a basketball game. VS converted the file fine for editing. I then trimmed several smaller clips and inserted them into the timeline. The smaller clips are from 2 - 20 seconds. After putting several in the timeline, I take a look at the project from its beginning. All looked good for a while, but after I added some more and attempted to play the project from beginning again, clips #2 through #16 had all become basically still images - the same still image. For the project I split audio and deleted and laid in an MP3 for sound track. Audio plays right, but clips appear to have been swapped with same still image. However on timeline, actual time of each clip appears below it. If I attempt to replace any clips in timeline, program freezes. I have also experienced the inability to playback the larger file when searching for areas to trim - large file is about 1GB. When this occurs I just get black in viewer and program freezes. Am I overtaxing something in my system by reviewing my project so frequently? I have had success with another project in which I used similar file - from dvd recorder - but used a lot fewer clips.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Clips in project have changed to still frames

Since you tell us absolutely nothing about your system, how are we supposed to comment on whether it is a system problem???
Apart from that, though, as you may be aware, VS in all its versions is notoriously pooor in the monitor screen, though not as bad as you are experiencing. It is not unheard of that it doesn't play back an edited video properly, though this is normally with the Clip mode and not the Project.
With this in mind, though, have you actually rendered it to a final DVD-compliant mpeg-2 file and seen how that plays back using any other software DVD player you may have on your computer?
