Hello,
I am using VideoStudio 10 Plus. I need help with adding subtitles. I have read the guide and made a search for subtitles on the forum but haven't found an answer.
I have a DVD movie with Croatian and English subtitles. I would like to cut a few scenes out of the movie and keep Croatian subtitles for the rest of the movie.
I have put the movie on my hard disk, opened it in VideoStudio 10 Plus, I have cut out the scenes I didn't like and now I have a movie that I like but no subtitles. The only option concerning subtitles I have seen is to open them from a text file. I know that subtitles are in the .IFO file but how do I open them and then what do I do since some of the dialog will have to be cut because of the cut out parts of the movie.
If someone can help me with this or point out the thread in which this was answered I'd be grateful.
Thanks,
Morz

I don't think Video Studio can do subtitles. DVD Workshop can make subtitles, but you'd have to write them yourself, or import a text file and set-up the timing... I don't know how to import them from an existing DVD.
Closed Captions (for the hearing impared) are text, but it's my understanding that the text is embedded in the video so that they can be broadcast or extracted from a VHS tape. And, I don't think any of the Ulead programs can make closed captions.
There are a couple of free programs that might help... but I'm not sure...
IFOedit
VOBedit
Hmmmm.... are you sure about that? Maybe the timing informatin is in the IFO file? Subtitles are "sub-pictures" (bitmaps)... not text.I know that subtitles are in the .IFO file...

Unable to check as I am at my workplace at present but have a copy of the Help file here.
There is mention in the help file of subtitles and saving / loading a subtitle file. The impression I have though is it is a method of placing "text" onto the video and not true "Subtitles" where you can turn them on/off.

Doug you're right. I did some reading and the timing is in the .ifo file not the subtitles themselves. Thanks for the links. I downloaded ifoedit and read some tutorials, found a program to extract subtitles and saved them as a .srt file but I am still at loss how to add them to video studio.Steve J do you know how I could add text to video to look like subtitles.
Thanks for responding guys, if anyone knows if it's possible to add subtitles in VideoStudio please help.

I done a little playing around with the Subtitles in VS10+. They do appear to be just titles added.
I placed 3 video clips on the main track. I then created a title for each clip. Then I highlighted all 3 titles, and selected Save Subtitles. VS saves the subtitles as *.utf files.
Next I open a new project, and inserted the same 3 clips. I went to the Insert Subtitles button, and it placed the titles on the text track in the same position as they were when I created / saved the subtitles.
