Audio file size

Post by zarchy »

I am using Video Studio SE 7 to extract the audio from some mpeg files and save as .wav file. My intent is to make an audio CD from the .wav files. The file sizes are coming out a little bigger than will fit on a CD. Is there anyway I can get the file sizes smaller by sacrificing bandwidth?

Download a free audio editor like Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ and create your audio files there.

No! Since the audio CD format is not compressed, there is no way to fit more than 80 minutes on an "80 minute" CD, or more than 74 minutes on a "regular" CD.

I've copied the audio from a few "live" video-concerts to CD, and most of the time, it takes 2 CDs. With a concert, you can use an audio editor like Audacity (Free!!!!) or GoldWave ($50) to trim a few minutes by editing out some of the "dead space" between songs.

Note that the audio on a DVD is sampled at 48kHz, and CDs are sampled at 44.1kHz. So, the CD file will be slightly smaller than a 48kHz WAV file made from the DVD.
