It's here, at last (MSP8 SP1)
Build 0028 may not be the full release version, if I remember correctly. I think it was the public beta version, which I thought was time-bombed to prevent it being used after the release version (I think build 0030). Unfortunately, the version history has been deleted from the beta tester's site, so I can't be sure.
What I can be sure about is that the release notes state "The service pack will update MediaStudio Pro 8.00.003x to 8.10.00xx". This implies that you cannot update because you may not have a licensed version. If I'm wrong, please accept my apologies and let us know.

Hmmmm! This may be tricky. Presumably you paid through Element. You will have received a Serial # from them and the right to download the basic version plus the extras which do the actual conversion to full version (forget the actual terminology) for a limited period of time, which has almost certainly expired.
I suggest you get onto Element and explain the situation to them, quoting their invoice number and date etc. They may be able to help - I've heard they are quite good in this respect. If not, explain this directly to Ulead and see what they say.

I don't think the install directory plays a role - mine is on the D: disc and SP1 installs perfectly.

Just had chance to check my install directory before setting out to work and 0028 was the latest release. The previous one had that internet activation thing and got changed with version 0028.
Didn't have time to check the next suggestion and now answering from my workplace so this may or may not work.
Often these downloaded exe files are a form of self extracting zip file.
If so you can try unzipping it first with winzip and then try to install.

Well, if you don't wish to tackle Element5 or Ulead, as I suggested in a previous message, scraping the bottom of the barrel, try installing th HotFix first and the SC Designer, I think that should take the build# to 0030 and SP1 should install. You won't do any harm, as any installed DLLs will be replaced by the latest ones in SP1.

IMHO, you are entitled to use SP1, according to what you say. What puzzles me is that you seem to be alone with the problem, not even some me too posts. One question, when you bought it, did you download and install the extras file? I think this was another ~200 Mb, but can't be sure as I have the boxed version. This is what would give you the full version. Otherwise, you would still be running the trial version, even if it with a serial no.
