Hello there.
I have this issue that is driving me crazy to say the least. Here's the story:
I have a Panasonic camcorder NVGS10 that works perfectly. On it, having a firewire (to PC) connection I decided to buy a firewire PCI board for my home PC. With the board it was included a videostudio lite version which I later upgraded to a full version 7.
I have to say that I got fantastic results with both camcorder and VS.
But this spell finished and got me a rude awakening.
Now, when I hook up the camcorder via its cable and turn the camera on, the PC recognize it by starting VS which will not allow me to enter the capture tab because he says: either no video driver installed or no device selected.
I have tried to uninstall and reinstall it back again twice with the same results. Now I'm totally lost being a sort of beginner.
Here's my specs all with the latest drivers:
win xp pro
1.3 GB ram
Maxtor 80 gb hard disk
edirol external audio module
Ati radeon 9800 pro video board
I have to say that before I had an Ati 9600 video card and it was working ok for everything.
Now I cannot say that the 9800 is the problem but it is the only element different than before. Can it be the video board drivers the cause of it? I have very recent Omega drivers, which I confirm are very stable and are not causing any problem in every software I run.
Please, help me out on this!!!!
My bests

please help before I smash everything.......

At precisely what point in the scenario did the ability to capture fail? You were capturing fine with VS7 SE using the PCI Firewire. Did the failure happen at the point you upgraded to VS8?

Hi Terry.....actually I started with 6 and upgraded to 8. But it wasn't a version issue since even with v.8 everything was going flawlessly. As stated, it seems like it is caused by the new Ati 9800 pro board. At least I think so since when I installed the board I actually didn't try any video capturing. I canche video board and happen to use the camcorder after a couple of weeks. This is why I think it is board related......
Hope this helps

If you've reinstalled all the relevant drivers, could there be a setting on the ATI 9800 that needs to be adjusted? When I recently purchased a new computer, it came pre loaded with a nice ATI card which was not a capture card. Rather than go Firewire PCI, I went another route. ADS released a great USB 2.0 capture device a few months back. Up until recently, I would never have considered USB 2.0 for capture for technical reasons, but this ADS device is awesome. It has its own capture software and captures high quality in sync DVD sound and vision which can then be imported into any version of video studio. It also has Video Studio 9 SE bundled with it, so you can choose to load straight into VS 9 if you prefer. It cost me $83. Money very well spent. I'm sure one of the Gurus here will solve your issue, Michael, but if nobody does, consider the ADS box.

Try removing the video drivers and reinstallthing them. You said you were using Omega drivers. If the above doesn't solve the problem try installing the latest ATI drivers. If that doesn't work, can you go back to your old video card and reinstall the drivers once more?
Now using Adobe Premiere and Photoshop
