Dolby plugin doesn't work any more with ntsc AC3 mpeg

Post by jossfrimond »

Hello,

I am editing a pal and a ntsc mpeg together. I bought ulead videostudio 8 and the dolby plugin. Everything was working fine for both mpegs - when I play the project they work great, and even when I create one mpeg out of the project - but now the ntsc mpeg's sound (AC3) doesn't work anymore, but the pal mpeg's sound does. I reinstalled the dolby plugin, but still nothing. Does anyone know how I can fix this? Do I have to reinstall videostudio? Or is there a project setting that has mysteriously changed?

Thanks for any help

Can you be more specific in your description of the problem? What are the symptoms?

vs 8 sound problem

Thanks for answering.

2 B more specific, I am editing two different mpeg files. The first is a pal mpeg. The second is a ntsc mpeg with AC3 dolby sound.

I bought the dolby plugin for vs8, because without it, the audio for the imported ntsc mpeg file did not work. The image was fine, but there was no audio. After installing the dolby plugin, the audio worked fine and I started to edit with the other mpeg.

Now, after a week's absence, the audio for that ntsc file doesn't work again, even though the pal one does. Neither when I play the clip nor the project.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled both vs8 and the dolby plugin, but the sound still doesn't work for that mpeg file. I've also changed the project preferences, but still nothing. The pal mpeg is fine, I can hear the audio and see the image. The image on the ntsc is ok, just the audio.

It's so annoying because I've nearly finished the project!

Thanks for any advice

PAL and NTSC have different frame rates, you can't simply merge the two. One has to be converted to the other. Just a guess but I'll bet your project settings match the PAL format.

Try this create a new NTSC project and insert your NTSC clip and see if your AC3 has returned.

Try here on how to do PAL to NTSC conversions or vice versa. www.videohelp.com Check the left and click guides.

Follow-up

I appreciate the help, but as I was saying, the ntsc file was working in ulead vs8. I have done several hours of work on it, and by converting the original file to pal, I'll have to do it all over again!

Isn't there another way to recapture the sound in the original ulead project? Why can't I suddenly hear the sound anymore? It was workig fine before!

Thanks again

And unless you convert to PAL correctly your gonna lose your sound again. PAL has a different framerate. PAL is 25 and NTSC is 29.976. When you convert the file your actually extending the time length of the footage, instead of 29.976 in a second you have 25, therefore the audio track is going to be too short even if it did work.

I don't have a lot of experience doing this but I think you could just rip the audio track out of the clip and convert it to a WAV. Convert the clips to PAL (25 fps), Find out what the time lenght of the movie is and extend your audio track to fit the length in an audio editor. It's going to run slow if you do it that way though..... See the link I posted above for guides on how to do it correctly.

My guess is since the length of audio doesn't fit the lenght of video VS is just discarding the audio clip.
