Why is DMF so unstable
Wel I'v beeen trying this programe for a week now and when it works its great slow but great .Thats when it works You start it the launch comes up then the try box comes up then the launch comes up eventually you get the part I'm after add files that is hit or miss you select a file it may or may not show anything happeninig and may or may not open to night I tried to save a file as a dvd folder a58 min file 2 and 3/4 hours later its been static on 83% for well over an hour This has to be wrong is there a problem with the trial version or is that as good as it gets.
Please tell us something about your file format, and how you captured it. The Read This First... post at the top of the forum tells you what we need to know in order to help you.
Off-hand, I'd guess that you are feeding Movie Factory bad video files. (You can't always tell... I've had corrupt MPEGs that play back OK, but cause trouble when you try to re-code, re-multiplex, or convert them.)
As far as I know, the trial limitations are:
- No Dolby AC3 sound.
- No Technical Support.

Assuming that something will be fixed in the retail version could be an expensive mistake! This has to be wrong is there a problem with the trial version or is that as good as it gets.

Regardless of any file there should be no hangups on launching The file I eventually got open was the same one I had opened easily the night before. This is a recording fron win tv2000 .Last night i saved that as disc image took about 1and 3/4 hours put that on disc and watched tonight perfect. I thought I would see if there was any change in time etc if I svad it to dvd folder After a couple attempts got the original file open and tried to save to dvd folder 2 and 3/4 hours later its still stuck on 83% . Again regardless off any problem surely DMF should come up with some error message and not just keep ticking over. Whty ok last night and not tonight I am just doing straight forward conversion so god forbid trying editing

DMF is a very useful and able DVD authoring program if it runs on the proper hardware. I have used it since version 2 and now use version 4.
I create a DVD from a DVD compliant mpeg2 file in about 1.3 x video duration.
What hardware are you running yours on? As far as we know it could be a washing machine. I suggest you start learning the basics before you crap anything.
Your ignorance is evident in your remark that it should not matter what the file format is. What utter nonsense. If your source file is not DVD compliant mpeg2, the recoding of it, depending on your hardware, could take anything from several hours to never finishing, get real.

I am finding MF5 to be extremely unstable on both of my AMD 64 systems, X2 3800 and 3000 versions.
Generates error message in Burn page during building menu transition, Unexpected error OK is the only clue.
DVDWS2.2, and MF4 are working as expected with no problems.
Files are encoded to NTSC DVD using MSP8.0 SP1 Beta.
I have reinstalled with same results.

I realise you have already re-installed but I think the suggestion by MD is still the most likely culprit.
Have you tried our method to uninstall first?

Thanks maddrummer for suggestion as to reinstalling notsure what happens to the trial period though? The other parameters yo suggest have all been doneAlso for appreciating unlike some that the launch is independent of any file type. What I have tried is monitoring the cpu usage whilst starting up etc., and this indicates a possible contribution to some of the problems. First in any application I use Ie Photoshop or Adobe Audio audition to name a couple when you try to open/add a file the selected file is normally Highlighted or some indication that the application is workingNot in DMF5 if you watch the cpu usage you can see that something is happening so if you wait lo and behold it eventually opens. I was assuming nothing was happening so probably cliked again etc., On trying to then save the file as a dvd folder i see the cpu running at over 90% for the whole conversion I am using a pentium 4 with 3Ghz processor.Considering Ulead claims minimum requirement a P3 I think they should elaborate more on how long everything takes other than alittle notice this may take some time.I like the programme its just clarifying my errors against poor information that I am trying to get my head round. Thanks again
Heinz if someone was having problems with either applications I mentioned above I would never dream of posting a reply like yours and I never crapped anything as you so crudely put it

maddrummer Thanks again for your input It seems abit more stable now that I am keepimg mymitts off as I know it is crawling along in the background. I do have windows installer 3.1 installed how would you check if it was that causing a problem. Point of reference to open a 2g file in dmf over a minute in Videoredo about 5secs?

Did you know heinz-oz happily slagged off people who were having trouble with MF4 (always accusing them of being idiots or having bad hardware) even before he had tried MF4 himself! At the time he was using MF3 (which by the way is very stable): unless of course Mr Oz couldn't be bothered to update his profile.
Sorry, needed to add this because I have always found heinz-oz very condescending, unhelpful and at times extremely rude to people who have had genuine problems with Movie factory. He seems to think the sun shines out of the ****** of Ulead and people who have problems are at fault: as someone who works in IT and who has good hardware and knowledge I'm finaly fed up of his comments..Even if this gets me banned..
