I am editing a video for a dual layer disc, and have never burned one before.
With reference to a possible pause during the layer change, is it best to just edit the whole 3 hours as one chunk, or break it down into 2 halves to acomodate the layer change, and if so how can you trigger the layer change in the required place (ie: not in the middle if a vital scene!)
Editing for dual layer

I'm really not an expert on this, so somebody may have a better answer... I haven't seen any software that lets you choose the layer-change point....how can you trigger the layer change in the required place?

I have authored a number of projects on dual-layer disks with UVS 9, and never experienced a pause between layers during playback. This includes disks that contained a single long video such as the Rose Parade in Pasadena (3 hours).
I don't know if I've been lucky with the DVD players I've tried, but I just don't give the layer-break issue any thought anymore. I suspect that the better DVD players read ahead and buffer enough audio and video to not experience a hiccup when they need to transition to the second layer.

I finally upgraded from VS7 to VS10. I wanted more than just more fancy menu transactions; 5.1 audio, to be exact. I made perfect playing dual layer DVDr's with other software; but the only problem I have with Ulead VS10, is that it doesn't make a DL DVDR correctly, after editing. The second layer never playbacks, or the first layer is repeating, when the selected menu is selected on layer 2. The scene in the menu is correct, not the video. Straight playthrough, results the same. I cannot tell at this point, if the first videos, is burned again on layer 2; or layer 1 repeats?
I used Vertabim 8X DL DVD+R blanks. I got the same result on any DVD player I use. So it's not the disk. Maybe S9 burned DL's correctly, not S10. I tried two S10 recording methods: Directfrom timeline; and AVI first, then to ISO files. Rendering a DL + 1 hour, High Quality file, is no joke; it takes a while to render. So when it doesn't work correctly....!!!@^*
And you need to have well over 1 hour, to get to layer 2.
