capture problems-the pin cannot use the supplied media type&

Post by stannmaple »

This question has been asked before, but it was about a year ago and nobody was able to answer it. People said it's not a common problem or one that has come up on this board much.
I found that I too have this problem. I'm capturing though firewire and have no problem capturing in other programs like windows movie maker. I realize I can just capture via movie maker and import to video studio, but I'd rather just capture via video studio if possible. The error message I get is "the pin cannot use the supplied media type." It actually gives me a few frames of good capture, but then stops. I was just wondering if anyone else has found a solution to this problem if they've experienced it in the past. Thanks for any help.

Hi,

I'm not sure what version of VS you're using, but 'The pin cannot use the supplied media type' is usually associated with a DirectX error. Updating your sound card drivers and possibly re-installing DirectX would probably fix this problem.

well, it looks like my sound card does not have drivers installed, but it still works? It's really strange. My computer tells me it has a problem and doesn't have drivers, but I have no problems with it. I can plug in a microphone, speakers, it works just fine. I tried downloading a driver for it 3 times actually and it won't take it. Very odd. I don't know what this would have to do with video capturing though... like I said, it captures video in movie maker with no problem. I also got all up to date on directx and the problem is still there. Oh, I also tried uninstalling and re-installing video studio, but no luck. Anyone else experience this problem?
Thanks.
