Re: Creating Stereo/Dolby Digital Switch?
Once a DVD is recorded in 5.1 the only way I know to switch it back to stereo is to make the change on your receiver. If you do not have a Dolby Digital receiver, the DVD will still play in stereo. Maybe I'm not understanding your question.okeania wrote:Hi,

Every DVD player has stereo outputs and the ability to "mix down" 5.1 channels to 2-channel stereo. The rear channel and center channel sounds will be sent to the left and right stereo outputs. It's my understanding that the DVD can contain mix-down instructions, so that the player "knows' how loudly to mix-in the rear and center sound. The LFE (Low Frequency Effects) channel is not included in the mix-down, but the other 5 channels are supposed to contain low frequencies already... The LFE is for extra "effects".
But, most commercial DVDs that have 5.1 surround also have a 2-channel stereo (or 2-channel matrix-surround) soundtrack.
AFAIK, Video Studio can't make a DVD with more than one soundtrack. DVD Workshop Express can make two soundtracks, and the full version of DVD Workshop can make up to 8 soundtracks.
