Post by okeania »

I have asked to prepare 5.1 surround and stereo compatible dvd. I was able to finish 5.1 demo dvd in VideoStudio 10 +, but I dont know how to put switch button for its stereo version? Any idea?

Thanks a lot in advance....

Once a DVD is recorded in 5.1 the only way I know to switch it back to stereo is to make the change on your receiver. If you do not have a Dolby Digital receiver, the DVD will still play in stereo. Maybe I'm not understanding your question.

Every DVD player has stereo outputs and the ability to "mix down" 5.1 channels to 2-channel stereo. The rear channel and center channel sounds will be sent to the left and right stereo outputs. It's my understanding that the DVD can contain mix-down instructions, so that the player "knows' how loudly to mix-in the rear and center sound. The LFE (Low Frequency Effects) channel is not included in the mix-down, but the other 5 channels are supposed to contain low frequencies already... The LFE is for extra "effects".

But, most commercial DVDs that have 5.1 surround also have a 2-channel stereo (or 2-channel matrix-surround) soundtrack.

AFAIK, Video Studio can't make a DVD with more than one soundtrack. DVD Workshop Express can make two soundtracks, and the full version of DVD Workshop can make up to 8 soundtracks.
