Editing DVD imported clips accross chapter boundries

Post by dc_reynolds »

I notice when I import clips from a DVD and the video that I want spans accross a chapter boundry and I trim the two pieces and butt them together on the timeline, that the final product will have minor drop out on the video or audio or both. Now a DVD player can smoothly play back accross the chapter boundry. It seems like VS8 should be able to combine the chapter boundry back together as well. Does anyone have any experience with how to resolve this issue. The imported DVD used dolby AC3 audio and I am using the Ulead AC3 plugin.

I am running 8.01 on XP SP2 1.5G Athlon, 512 Mb RAM, 60 G free disk.

When you trim a few frames from video clips and butt them together in the timeline, there will be an unavoidable hiccup in the sound because you have removed a piece of the track. You can reduce this effect by dropping the volume on each clip at the junction (use the Fade-In and Fade-Out controls on the left of the edit screen). You could also introduce a transition at the junction to indicate a chapter new chapter.

Thanks for your thoughts. I did not trim the edges of the two chapter boundries that I am trying to join together. I did trim the earlier in the first chapter and later in the second chapter. The raw video footage off a standalone DVD recorder will typically force chapter marks every 10 minutes. So I can't control that but want to occasionally use the footgage from a recorded DVD. It seems like it should be possible to use cross chapter boundry footage in VS8.
