Overwrite-Insert?

Post by ChrisInLA »

Is there a way to remove clips in VideoStudio without closing the gap left in the timeline? Conversely, is it possible to overwrite clips when inserting in the timeline? In AVID or Pinnacle Edition (and other programs) this would be an Overwrite (as opposed to Insert) mode, and it is pretty essential to cut a piece to music and make modifications, but I can't seem to find anything about it in the help files or tutorials.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Unfortunately VS8 won't do that; it has been the topic of much discussion. Trying to realign everything after doing a later edit is frustrating.
Maybe something for Version 9??

But if you had a gap in the timeline what would appear 'on screen' during that period ????

If you want to remove a piece of video just make a careful note of exactly how long it is (to the frame) then remove it and insert a colour block (black ??) or if you want another piece of video of exactly the same length.

Or if you find it easier leave your original in the top track and put your colour block/video in the overlay track and set it to the correct length.

I would love to see this in another version. I bought the program for a friend to use - I use Edition, AVID and Final Cut Pro. All professional editing software has this option, as do some consumer programs. I like VS's other features, but this is deal killer.

To BrianCee: you would just see a blank screen, but leaving gaps is a much more efficient way of managing edits when you are cutting to time.]

Thanks for the replies...

Well if all you want to see is a blank screen then a black colour block would work perfectly well.
