PI-11 Won't Load

Post by timDI »

I purchased PI-11 English about a month ago. It seemed to install ok but when I try and use it it goes throught the initialization process and stops about half way through and will not open.

I am so frustrates with ULead's help desk. They take 3-4 days to answer a plea for help. All of the suggestions they offer do not work. The only way to communicate with them is in a reply box at the bottom of their e-mails. I installed it on my computer at work and it seems to work just fine. I have uninstalled and deleted all references to PI and ULead in my regedit and also installed the patch they have on their web site. Nothing works.

HELP!!!!

Hi Tim, welcome to the forums..:)

This is just an attempt at determing what is causing the hang. When PI is going the the initialization, you will notice across the bottom of the splash screen the files that it is intializing. Have you noticed what it is trying to start when it hangs? If so is it the same one everytime, and what is it?

You also need to complete your system information in your profile. It wil help us troubleshoot this and future issues. (Hopefully there will not be any future issues, but.... )

As Heinz would say:

Did you clean out your Temp folders?
Did You go into Control Panel and under Internet Options delete the cookies, tempstored files, and history?
Did you defrag the hard drive before installation?
Did you turn off the Anti-Virus and Firewall before install?

Last, what is the difference between your computer at home and the one at work?

PI 11 Won't Load

Thanks for your reply. I have XP Home, 1.7 gh , 512 k ram, 80mb drive. I followed the suggestions their support dept. had offered (close security programs, delete temp files, uninstall, delete regedit lines, etc.) Nothing works. Reinstalled along with the new patch. When I re-installed and clicked on the icon to start the initialition began. It initialized several files and stoped at U32psd.fio. After about 20 sec. the initialization screen disappears. When I click on the icon again, it starts up and initializes to the file U32aps32.dll and stops again. Then after about 20-30 sec. the screen disappears again.

This is so frustrating. There is something in my computer that is interfering. I will say this: I downloaded their trial version of PI-11 and it would not load either. I had downloaded the trial version of PI-10 about 6-8 months ago and liked it a lot. Decided to buy. I uninstalled trial PI-10 and the trial PI-11 before I purchased the PI-11 disc ( no download).

Any help will be appreciated. PI-11's support dept. is the pits.

Okay! That gives me enough to work with.

u32Psd.fio is the Ulead file open, save, and close for Photoshop file format.

U32asp32.dll is also a Ulead program file that process the fio files. One of these two files or both is damaged. It would have to be during install since you were able to install on another computer without problems.

Irrespective, do a filed search for u32Psd.fio and rename the file u32Psd.old. This should allow Ulead to start, but you will not be able to open Photoshop files.

Unfortunately, these files are part of the install pack and cannot be extracted separately. In this case there is no Registry Key that can be altered or deleted. Uninstall and reinstallation of the software is the only possible remedy.

I can not tell you if the install was bad or there is another program interfering.

Workaround. Copy these two file from the computer program that works and install them in the correct Ulead Folders for the program that does not work and try again to start Ulead.

Per your suggestions, I copied the 2 files from my computer at work and renamed the old files and placed the files from my work computer in the correct folders on my computer. It still hangs up at the initialization of U32apr32.dll.

I then went to the install disk and ran the correct errors part and tried to open. Same exact problem.

I then copied all of the files from the folder ULead/PhotoImpact 11 from my work computer on to a disc and pasted them into the same folder on my home computer. This replaced the existing files.

Same problem. It gets to U32Aps32.dll and stops.

I would hate to reformat my hard drive because of this. That would involve a lot of work making backups of about 40G of stuff.

Does any one have any other suggestions outside of reformatting the hard drive. FYI, I send a help e-mail to ULead's "support" dept on Monday. It is now Saturday and I have not received a reply from them.

I had a similar problem caused by a corrupted workspace in PI, but PI was displaying an error message after 2 or 3 minutes. After uninstall Try to delete all ulead references (in program files, and averall in documents and settings in each user profiles, registry etc..) and maybe download a new PI11 installer from the site.
