I have MediaStudioPro 6.5 and I can't figure out how to copy an avi file from my computer to my digital camera. The files that I want to transfer back to cassette were captured from a friend's Mini-DV camcorder using Video Capture of MSP but I now want to send them from the computer to a Digital 8 cassette on my older Sony DV camera. The purpose of all this is to get them on my cassette for storage as well as to then have the computer recapture the files separating them by time codes (scenes). Can I do this with MSP 6.5? If so, how? Thanks for any guidance or advice you can offer.

My reply is in the MUG forum, which you also posted to.

I also noticed that if you have the manual for MSP6, beginning on Page 205 it gives a good detailed procedure for doing this.
If you don't have it then you can still get it here:

Thanks to all for the help. I tried both "print to tape" and "export DV recording" and the software controlled the camera okay and it looked to be working well in both cases but I got no video on the tape, only an occassional still shot. My graphics card is a 128 MB ATI Radeon 9700 TX w/TV Out & DVI that came with my Dell 8250 a few years ago. My camera is a Sony TRV-310, about 9 years old. Perhaps one or the other is not up to the task. At any rate, I took the coward's way out and borrowed my friends mini-DV camera again to copy the files in again and all is okay. Devil suggested that I might be able to right click on the MSP timeline and split the video into scenes. This worked fine. But, I also wanted the scenes so that I could use them in a couple different applications, e.g., stick a short video scene into a slide show using ProShow Producer. When they are split for MSP on the timeline, I can not figure out how to save them for general use elsewhere. But, the bottom line is that I am all set, thanks to the forum's help.

Since the Split-by-scene is working, then use the "Smart Trim" function to save the individual clips to a new folder. Pay attention to the popup that asks what to do wit hthe originals afterwards (try it a few times to see what happens -- use a test clip).
In order for the Smart Trim to work, make sure you clip off just a little bit from one of the scenes -- it has to think you are no longer using the ENTIRE clip, so cutting off one second from the last scene should work...

George

Look at this web page http://www.hamradio.si/~s51kq/DV-IN.HTM
It seems to mention enabling DV-in (which skier-hughes mentioned earlier).
If you do not have DV-in enabled you will never store information on your camcorder. Assuming it is enabled (the above website implies it is not normally enabled in Europe - your profile does not give your location) have you tried recording from other DV software? Have you tried the MSP 8 trial version?
