Re: Multiple Overlays
Not sure if this is your requesting but here goes:pepegot2 wrote:Does anyone know of some tips or tutorials on Multiple Overlays?
1) You can use overlays in photo montages (2,3, or more photos on one clip
2) Same as above only with video clips. As an example, if I have a video that's 30 mins long & need to shorten it to 20 mins without losing video footage, I'll use the overlay for side by side (PIP) of different scenes.
The list of overlay uses is many........Others may have suggestions.

Hi Pepegot2,
I often wondered too what could a person really do with multiple overlays. I was willing to settle for maybe 2 overlay tracks. Then a member of this forum Bill the tv news guy (yes he works in television post production) enlightened me on the real world aspect of video production.
It is not uncommon to have 6 or 7 overlay tracks being used. For example when you watch the news (they are notorious for this) you see titles in the lower part of the screen. These are called "lower-third graphics". This may take 2 tracks alone, but more likely 4, Title(name of person talking), logo, maybe date and time, location..). Now throw in a picture in picture, or 2 or 3, clips playing in the background, maybe over the shoulder of the news anchor or reporter. Might have 2 field reporters displayed simultaneously. Then maybe the television logo being displayed behind everything full screen. So you can see from that, the many different uses of multiple overlay tracks.
Here's another take on using multiple overlay tracks...
Create animated background effects. I've taken video clips, added some effects to them, then overlayed them, making one semi-transparent. You can get some neat looking animations that way.
When I saw that Ulead added 6 overlay tracks to VS10+ I thought wow..!!! What a person can do now with such an affordable program... I had purchased MSP8 about 2 months before I learned that they had developed VS10. I think I would not have spent the money on MSP8 had I known in advance...
Hope that gives you some ideas..
The easiest way to learn, is to experiment, mess things up, and have fun..

I'm at work & doing this from memory....
Above your time line there are a few circular icons. I believe its the one to the left of the 5.1 surround sound.
The trial version does not have a help screen. Try downloading the manual via Ulead web site for better directions..
...As an FYI, the 5.1 surround sound does not work in the trial version.

Imagine what you can do in MSPro 8.0 with 99 tracks and multiple timelines that can be nested as virtual clips.
Basically you can set up a sub-projects (chapters, whatever) on the 'extra' timelines, then assemble them on the main timeline with each appearing to be an ordinary clip. Doubleclick on it and its contents come forward.
This system also allows you to load multiple projects, or multiple versions of a single project, at once. You can even move assets from them into a whole new project, again as virtual clips.
The mind sometimes boggles at what you can do in that program

Multiple Overlay tracks
I created multiple overlay tracks (for now I have 2 - Overlay Track 1 & 2). Every time I click on the Title track or the Title Step the timeline collapses to just 1 overlay track and just shows Overlay track 2. To open up Overlay track 1, I have to look for the clip with an overlay on track one, go to the overlay step and double-click on the image and the overlay track 1 shows up again on the timeline.
Is there a short-cut key to open up all the overlay tracks, or a setting that will always keep all the overlay tracks viewable on the timeline?
Thanks.

Re: Multiple Overlay tracks
Use the Overlay Track Manager. The button is in the toolbar where you select the storyboard/timeline view. Look to the right, there are 4 buttons - Smart Proxy, Batch Convert, Overlay Track Manager and Enable/Disable Dolby 5.1.enneRV wrote:Is there a short-cut key to open up all the overlay tracks, or a setting that will always keep all the overlay tracks viewable on the timeline?
Click on the Overlay Track Manager, and you can check which Overlay tracks you want to display.

Thanks nosnoop for a quick response.
I found the problem, all the tracks on the overlay manager were checked, but I guess every time I clicked on the text track it moves up the tracks that are being displayed and shows the 4 tracks that fits the timeline display which are the overlay track 2, text, voice, music and the video track which is always displayed. I just have to move the "slider" on the right up or down to show the hidden track.
Have a great day!
