Subtitles not being displayed during preview

Post by david_a »

I have just installed the trial version of ULEAD DVD Workshop 2.0 and have tried to use the subtitle functionality without success.

Environment:
Windows XP 64bit
DVD Workshop 2.0 + Update Pack (Build Number: 2.231, Release Date: 2004/10/06)

Fowwed the instructions in the quick help:
Created new project
Loaded avi movie file
added subtitled to the movie - from start to end.
Ran the preview but subtitles are not displayed. Tried changing the subtitle track but still no subtitles.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

I suspect there may be a question of terminology.

What do you mean by "preview"? If you mean in the Edit tab, this is normal.
If you mean in the Finish tab, then you have to select which s-t track you used to define them (# displayed LHS of Add/Edit subtitles window), by clicking on the Sub icon until you have the correct one shown.

Make sure you have no overlapping s-ts, as this may be fatal (warning at bottom of Add/Edit window).

thanks for the reply.

I have also tried it at the finished stage and tried changing the track number, but still nothing is displayed.

I presume you see them in the Add/Edit window preview?

Did you add the s-ts by typing them in in the Add/Edit window or did you import a text file? Some 3rd party editors may not provide compatible text.

Hi,

I only see them in add/edit while entering the text directly on to screen. If I enter the text directly into the grid it is not displayed. I haven't imported any text.

1. You cannot install update packs to trial versions, so the update pack is not installed, including the sub-title fix.

2. Win64 is not in the supported list, check http://www.ulead.com/dws/sysreq.htm for more details.

3. If you are using a pirate version, some features might not work properly.

Hi,

I am using the trial version, but there was no warning message when I installed the update pack.

Do you know if the subtitle fix in the update pack is the fix for the problem I am experiencing?

Yet one more reason for WS3 :)

The subtitle fix is to fix the input problem for some languages in the subtitle module.

The subtitles in DVD is a little different with subtitles in video files. In my test you might only see the subtitles after you burn the WS project to disc or DVD folder on hard disk.

Yes, I agree. That's why I also sign my name in the wanted list. :)

It appears that the this specific update pack does indeed install on a trial version - although it didn't fix my problem.

I was doing a test using a movie .avi file rather than a DVD. I will try burning to a DVD folder to check if the subtitles do appear.

As far as I am aware Ulead software only supports DVD sub titling.
There is an interesting article here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subtitles

If you wish to use Divx / Xvid style subtitling see this link:

I'm now going to be very picky with you, Steve. What you said is NOT true. There are many softwares for s-ting. What you meant to say is:
As far as I am aware Ulead software supports only DVD sub titling.
That is NOT the same thing. The 'only' should refer to the DVD sub-titling, not to the Ulead software.

Sorry for the grammar lesson :)

As it is nearly home time (for me anyway), and just for fun I'll join in here.

Not convinced Steve's statement is incorrect. To be incorrect he would have had to say "As far as I am aware only Ulead software supports DVD sub titling."

Depends on whether 'only' modifies 'Ulead software', as I suggested previously or 'supports'. If it modifies 'supports', which is the only alternative from it position, it means that Ulead software supports DVD s-ting AND NOTHING ELSE! That's even worse! I rest mu case! :)

Does Ulead Software support anything other than DVD sub titling :?:
