Problems with new Smart Compositor Templates

Post by Don Smith »

Well, I downloaded and installed the new SC templates and was checking each one out. There are some major problem! 3 out of 6 of the Sports templates cause MSP8 to crash on me!! They are SO3_A, SO3_B, and SO1_A. Also The Documentary template DOO3_A causes a crash and the Romatic Template RO3_A causes a crash. There may be more that cause a crash, I got pretty ticked off after having to restart so many times, and I gave up until tomorrow when I'll check it again. I did reinstall the program, thinking that may solve the problem, but still the same. I am running the SP1 previw beta (ver 8.10.0037.0) and everything works fine with MSP8. Also, I was not at all impressed with the templates, the origonal ones I thought were much better. I'm thinking of contacting Element 5 for a refund.

Just tried another one

Just tried one of the new Music Video templates, same thing, MSP8 has crashed again. I'm through testing for a while. I think they may have rushed this out a bit too soon!! Download and install at your own risk. I'd be interested in hearing if others have the same problem?

I would be very interested to hear if anyone installs them and they work as expected.

Just one question: which version are you trying it on, 8.0 or 8.1? There are mods in 8.1 that may be the answer. I have them on 2 computers and 8.1 and they seem to work OK on testing (I don't actually use SC for real-life work!). What I have noticed is that it is a mistake to try several one after the other without closing SC completely in between. Mine crashed after about trying 5 or 6, without closing SC to clear the memory. If you close SC after 1 or 2 tries, there is no problem. Just to check, I strung all the new ones on a timeline, one after another, opening up all the sub-timelines, and rendered them to a PAL DV AVI file. Worked fine (second time! First time I had an unidentified problem with the nomenclature).

In summary, if you press either the Insert or the Cancel button after opening a template and before opening another, I don't believe there is a proble (unless someone finds there is!!!).

If you have installed Flash player 8 then it's possible the cause. Install MSP 8 Flash Update Pack should fix the problem.

Also the MSP 8 Service Pack Beta 8.10.0038.0 also fixed this issue.

Hope this helps.

As I noted above, I am using ver 8.10.0037. And I just tried opening MSP8 and immediately opened SC and tried one of the Sports templates that didn't work (SO3_A) and again, it crashed MSP. So this isn't a memory thing.

Don,
The problems I found with Smart Compositor were that files created by the designer tool were placed in the wrong location and then MSP8 was unable to locate them.

Please check the following directory
C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead MediaStudio Pro 8.0\uct_plug
Now look for files ending uct and see if the "missing ones" are there
Looking at your post I would suspect they will be named
SO3_A.uct
SO3_B.uct
SO1_A.uct
DOO3_A.uct

If they do not exist do a search and you will then probbaly find them located in one of those folders that resemble
00B7AB456215105AB51DA4D8ED11AFDA

There are now 2 things you can try.
1. Copy that uct file into
C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead MediaStudio Pro 8.0\uct_plug

If that fails to work then simply open the dvp file which is located in that folder resembling 00B7AB456215105AB51DA4D8ED11AFDA
Do this by opening MediaStudio then selecting file | Open

I have NOT purchased the extra templates now on offer, the above suggestions are based upon the faults I discovered in the Smart Compositor Designer and mentioned in my posting here:
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 7501#57501

Has anyone bought these and got them to work as they should?
I would be very interested to hear.

Thanks for your help and suggestion, Steve. I will check that out when I get on top of some of my editing backlog. I appreciate your response, and actually all of your postings. You have been very helpful.

And, I sure would be interested in hearing from others who have purchased the new templates to see if they experience the same problems. Don't let me scare you off!!

Gang,

I installed the Smart Compositor update today. After seeing the problems being experienced here..and remembering that (hehe) occasionaly Ulead products might have a quirk or two I decided to try them before I needed them in a project.

I am amazed. They just work. Every one I tried.. T03_b, So3_a,DO03_a and DI04_a seem to work just fine. Every one got the same test. Open it.. Replace a piece of video.. change a title.. then add to timeline. Then preview.. then render. They all worked.
The first two I tried at dv type 1 settings, the second two and the addidtion of R04_a were tried at HD 1080.
I am using MSP build 8.10.0037.0, I have no idea what version of Flash is on this system... if that's important please someone tell me how to find the version number.

Hope this helps

I would like to state something.

The 8.1.0037.0 service pack beta does not include the Flash update pack. If you did not install the Flash update pack and install the 0037 service pack beta, then you might get the crash problem when you try to use some Smart Compositor Templates with Flash player 8 installed.

The current service pack beta 8.1.0038.0 includes the Flash update pack and will fix the problem.

The official service pack 1 will also include Flash update pack.

Hope this helps, and sorry for the misleading in my last post.

OK, that's some encouraging news. Also, Dale Tripp, a frequent poster on the mugs forum reported that all the SC templates worked fine on his system too. So.....guess I have some sort of issue going on. I have version 8.10.0037.0 running. Do I need to uninstall MSP, then reinstall, then reinstall the SC templates? I think I'll wait for the final SP1 to come out before trying that, but does that make sense?

That should not be necessary. I have updated my 8.0 release version through half-a-dozen or so beta SP1 builds, with various tweaks, without re-installing and everything works on 2 computers, including all the new SC templates.

Thanks. Guess I'll just wait for SP1, whenever it eventually arrives, and see if that fixes things.
