Stock Earth grouped object rotates strangely...

Post by sebrame »

The included earth "Grouped Object" is perfect for what I need to do, but when I rotate it 360 degrees on it's Y axis it acts as if the center of the object is a little off, causing it to have a shallow orbit along with the rotation. IS there a way to adjust this center of roatation?

There is, but you are opening a can of worms, if you get my drift. You have to go through all the key frames of the animation and make sure the center of rotation is the same on all. Make sure you only do that for the group, not the separate elements of the group. Be prepared to stuff it up before you get it right, in other words, make a copy of the original before you modify. That way, you can always start afresh if you wrecked it. :wink:

Thanks for the quick reply Heinz!

Now, where would one find the adjustment for the center of rotation? All I can locate are X Y and Z axis, and all of them are 0 (except for the Y's rotation).

X= horizontal
Y= vertical
Z= depth

if the coordinate for Y changes between key frames while X is stable, the object would move in the vertical.

I apologize...

I don't know why I said that Y was anything but zero. Only the rotation is changed. All Axis are zero throughout the animation...every frame. Actually...I just take the globe straight out for the EasyPalette, add rotation, and it wobbles...no other changes are made. I make a keyframe 200 frames out and set the rotation to 360. Does this happen with your's? Perhaps the actual center reference point is off on this object..so that even at zero axis settings it still wobbles, cause 0 is not exactly center?

I have used this once, a long time ago. Didn't notice any wobble. There may be other elements or actions active also. Maybe camera movement, don't know. All you can do is to go through each keyframe and check.
