RAW image file support question - why can't I see the images

Post by awp »

I recently purchased PhotoImpact 11 and downloaded the RAW image support update so that I can use it with my Kodak P850. On the download page, it gave instructions on how to use this same file to update Explorer 8.6 for the RAW image support. I loaded the file to the directory it named, but I cannot see thumbnails or look at the file in the viewer. So what did the update really do for Explorer? This is something I really had hoped to have so that I'd have a two-punch combination for my camera's raw files -- the abilty to browse them and edit them. Why can't I see them in Photo Explorer?

I have not purchased the product yet but am trying to evaluate it to see if it can do what I want. I take photos mostly in RAW mode so not seeing the thumbnails is a big problem. I have follwed the instructions too for the dll install but no luck.

Any advice? I'm sure many people take photos in RAW mode so this should be a known issue.

I can see my RAW images in PhotoExplorer (PI 11) just as easy as I see the jpegs. My Canon EOS 350D shoots both simultaneously.

Check on the Ulead web site if your RAW format is supported. http://www.ulead.com/tech/pi/pi_ftp.htm but don't forget that TBYB do not allow you to load patches. Only the full version/upgrade will.

Well I went ahead and purchased PhotoExplorer, but same result. I cannot see any of the RAW files. I have the Nikon D100 and D2X. The D100 is not listed in the supported camera formats, but the D2X is. Still nothing.

The RAW update patch listed says it is for PhotoImpact 11 and Photo Explorer 8.6. Maybe I am missing something but the latest version of Photo Explorer I just purchased is 8.5. Is there an update to 8.6?

Yes, it comes with PI 11 but does not install automatically. If you have a downloaded version you will have to get the installer from the Ulead web site.
