Can't burn DVDs but only VCDs

Post by dbil »

I can't burn a DVD, SVCD, or a DVD-VR when Creating a Video Disc. This has been happening for awhile. I need to create a DVD for class. When I try to create a new project, it automatically is at VCD and I can't change it because everything else grayed out. The same goes for Direct to Disc and Create Slideshow. I've tried restarting my computer and it doesn't change anything.

Hi dbil, welcome to the forums..:)

What version of DVDMF do you have? I suspect it came bundled with some hardware, correct? If so these are SE (Simple Editions) and some will only allow burning to a CD, not DVD. For example I also have Media Studio Pro 7.0 VE, Video Edition. It only allows me to create SVCD, or VCDs.

I also must ask, you do have a DVD burner that the program can see? If not then the options for burning a DVD would not be available.

The version in which I have is 3.5.

The disc came with the DVD burner in which I bought. I've burned data on the DVD previously before this thing happened. The program does recognize my DVD burner.

I'm not familar with 3.5, I don't know if it has a Splash screen/start menu that gives the options of Creating a DVD or Creating a VCD. With MF4DC, it has those 2 start up options. Clicking on the CD, will only provide options for CD and not DVD.

You might do some looking around in the Preferances and see if there is a setting there that was inadvertently changed.

I don't know if that can help though.

Just HTML code... the html tags don't work on this board. To have an image displayed here the code needs to be something like this,

Code: Select all

However I managed to view the image...

Well I can sure see that it is not allowing you to select anything but VCD. Do you have any other DVD authoring programs installed? Like Nero, or Roxio? I don't think they would interfere at this point, but who knows..?

Since you have the disc, you might try doing a Repair on the install. Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove. It should prompt you to Uninstall or Repair.

I did as what you said but it has not changed anything. I removed it and then re-installed but that same problem is still happening. So yea.

If it came bundled with something it is probably a SE version like Ron has already mentiioned. Try downloading one of the 30 day free trial versions to see if the problem persists.
