Ulead VS10+ crashes Mpeg4 files

Post by Ekka »

When ever I try to play, render, etc an Mpeg4 vid file Ulead just crashes.

I have taken a copy of the two error reports it spits out.

I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the product 3 times now but makes no difference.

BigDaddy -- do you have VS10 or VS10+? Only the latter has the ability to handle mpeg-4 files.

Well I'm glad that i'm not the only one.

On advice from another PC guy I downloaded this free codec pack

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_L ... c_Pack.htm

Didn't download the old version of Windows Media Player as part of that package as I have a newer version.

Now WMP plays the said vids no worries but Ulead crashes as above, so I know it's a Ulead problem not PC problem.

Steve

I read a fair whack of your posts, very informative indeed, well done.

But on that link to this problem all I found was this ...

DivX / Xvid / MPEG4 and other formats.

These formats are becoming increasingly popular due to their small files sizes but high quality. They are more compressed than MPEG2 format and are perhaps the best file types to be used when sharing video over the Internet. All of the major TV companies in the United States and a number of British TV companies are now making their programmes available for download on the Internet. Here you will undoubtedly find that one of these 3 formats have been utilised.
They are not playable in a normal standalone DVD player though I have seen a few players starting to appear on the market, which will play these formats.

The problems associated with editing MPEG2 files pale into insignificance when attempting to edit these formats because they are even more highly compressed than MPEG2. Should you wish to create a DVD from these files they must be converted to MPEG2 format first – remember that those VOB files in the VIDEO_TS Folder are a form of MPEG2.

So, I'm still stuck, and I've reloaded it again for fun and it's exactly the same... crashing. Yet, on some-one elses PC the exact same file in VS10 works fine?? Go figure??!!

Ekka, what flavor of MPEG4 are you working with? Can you post the file properties?
Now using Adobe Premiere and Photoshop

Ekka,

I think what you need to do to is convert the MPEG4 format to at least MPEG2 in order for VS10+ to handle it. Ulead may say that the program can do something, however that is probably based on ideal situations.

For example here in the US, new cars being sold have an EPA fuel rating sticker on them. It indicates that the car should get "X" miles per gallon on the highway, and "X" miles per gallon in the city. However in reality that does not happen.

So try to convert your MPEG4 files with this program, SUPER, http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html It is a free program that converts about any format to another...
