Show Message when inserting first video clip in timeline

Post by GuyL »

The only time I get this prompt is if the file is an MPEG file. Otherwise, the prompt doesn't occur. Is this the way it is supposed to work?

Hi Guy

This may not be easy to explain but I will give it a go:-

The option to show messages is to allow VS to change the project properties to match the video file.

The project properties can only have standard video properties. That will be suitable to create a Dvd.
They can be Avi or Mpeg.

If you look at File – Project Properties – Edit- you can select either Avi or Mpeg, from here you can select various options from ‘edit’.

Your Video File that triggers the Show Messages has to be complaint.

If for instance you insert a Wmv file then no action.

Try the VS video library, some Avi give no action whilst some do, The ones that don’t seem not to have any audio ???????? ( I was using VS 9)

So Guy you are correct, the video file you insert should be using the standard properties, otherwise no action. But can be Avi or Mpeg.

The Show Messages only happens once for each new project.

Earlier versions of VS work a little differently.

Hope this Helps.

Thanks, I was not aware it was for DVD compliant files only - which begs the question on AVI. What AVI would ever be compliant for DVD?

Anyway, if that is the case then I now understand why only MPEG seems to trigger it. I really wish that Ulead would let you set your preferred default project settings. It is quite anoying to have to set it everytime.

When I open VS9 it always opens wth MPEG as the default project settings. However I always use DV/AVI to edit. When I insert a DV/AVI file, the prompt pops up.. So it works with DV/AVI files too...
