Firstly, I have never really created MPEG 4 files so I was wondering if anyone could help me.
I have just ordered an Archos AV580 media player which plays back MPEG 4 files. Is the MPEG 4 video created using Videostudio 10 going to be compatible with this player? It mentions DivX as well.
Thanks

Howell,
Yes VS10+ should be able to output render an MPEG4 file that will work on your Archos. Your device uses the Microsoft AVI container MPEG4.
However in reference to Steve's post, don't be surprised if you have problems trying to Edit MPEG4. The reason that neat devices like the Archos are available is due to the HIGHLY COMPRESSED formats such as MPEG4. These formats are meant for one thing and one thing only, To view and distribute.
Manufacturers will tout that their products can do this or that, so they can sell. However when placed in real life situtations, the "push the envelope" features can cause the product to fall flat on its face....

Thanks for the help.
I am quite familiar with dv, dvd, svcd and vcd file formats and understand about the problems editing.
I only asked because the method of importing a file to virtual dub and/or divx seems to be a bit long winded. Its seems so much easier to import the video and create the mpeg4 file in Videostudio. Obviously, as you mentioned, I have no intention of actually editing in mpeg4, just using Videostudio for conversion.
Will have to wait a couple of days now for delivery from QVC
Once again
Thanks, greatly appreciated

How you getting on with your Av500 ? (great gadget huh ?)
For whats its worth, i find the most reliable process is to take the MPEG2 files you would burn onto your disc then use the bundled pocketdivx software to convert this file.
I agree it would be nice to create directly from vs, but i never got a decent result ( would always seem to end with motion artifact lines )
However, if you have found settings that work, would be interested to hear !
