Cropping stills for use in VS projects

Post by Sainthouse »

The booklet 'Digital Video Basics', which came free with VS8, advises cropping still images at a size of 704 x 576 for use in PAL projects. I have followed this all the time I have been producing 4:3 DVDs and it's been fine. However, I am now with VS10+, filming in 16:9 and am about to edit my first widescreen project. Can anyone tell me the size I should crop at for PAL 16:9? (I promise I have spent hours searching the forums for a simple answer to this! I have even tried coming up with a formula to work out the right size, but I'm no mathematician!)

Many thanks

Strangely enough its the same dimensions!
what you have to do though is activate the 16.9 mode on your digital camera prior to taking your pictures.

Thanks for that, Steve. But what about existing photos? Won't they be reduced in size to fit into the 16:9 screen if I crop them to 704 X 576?

Thanks for that, Trevor. And what an ingenious way of getting 4:3 footage into 16:9 format. I'm almost tempted to go back over all my 4:3 projects and re-do them. Yes, I know, I should get out more!
