Workshop 100% cpu with VNC
I have 3 computers and control all 3 with win2vnc and tightvnc.com software, it's amazing and simple, mouse moves to edge of screen and it "jumps" to second computer/monitor. problem is that once I have dvd workshop 2.232 open that PC immediately jumps to 100% cpu, workshop is frozen and the save icon jumps..
the VNC folks say it's not their problem.. and from what I can see, I use the vnc stuff for over 6 years.. no a single other software has this problem.. so must be something specific with dvd workshop...
any one has any ideas?

I don't have a clue but Ulead would probably say it's not their problem because it works on a single computer as it was designed for!:(
I would suggest that I'm not over-surprised that you would have difficulties with it, with any video application. The amount of data that could be handled over a network, in real time, is limited and no amount of buffering could make up the shortfall. Encoding, for example, is very CPU intensive and it is easy to see that if an item of data is missing from the L1/L2 buffer, when it is needed, could trip up the whole thing.
Do you have any way of switching off the VNC, so that the computer can work by itself? If not, dual-booting may provide an answer.

no my friend, you are completely off base.. network traffic due to vnc is *minimal*.. with win2vnc there is NO extra window opened, you control the remote machine .. if you have never seen it in action, then it's by *FAR* the coolest software available, for free of course.. I am using it for many years, with NO problems at all, on Solaris, SGI, windows, and linux, and absolutely no software, including video games, have any issues with VNC , all I do is move my mouse of the remote machine, that's it.. it's a BUG in Ulead, but whatever..
when I have to do video editing, then I connect a keyboard to that PC and work on it , instead of the vnc solution, which i use all all other applications, and computers in my farm..
if you haven't used x2vnc or win2vnc.. then you have little chance at answering this post correctly
go and use it, and you won't be sorry...
enjoy.

It can be a bug only if Ulead state that it is compatible with VNC. Many of the complaints in these forums are because users have most of a computer's resources taken by numerous background applications, not leaving enough for the resource-intensive video software. This is not a bug, but a question of resource management. I respectfully suggest that your problem may be similar.stormy1777 wrote: it's a BUG in Ulead

I'm sorry my friend.. really , with all respect.. I have a lot.. you have NO IDEA what you are talking about.. it's nothing about resources, or cpu.. it's a BUG!! ulead's software should be friendly to tiny applications that draw nothing as far as resources..
I encourage you to reply further after you have familiarized yourself with x2vnc , win2vnc, etc. otherwise you are wasting your time, and discouraging others from seriously considering my thread by adding more unneeded text here. problem is VERY simple to reproduce , and win2vnc is a *very* useful software.. ulead can't announce which software packages they are 'compatible' with, there are 1000's of software titles out there.. I don't expect them to test it with all possible combinations.. but this is clearly a simple bug in their mouse/pointer management.. you don't need to do anything, just launch DWorkshop, and it screems at 100% cpu, win2vnc client disconnect, and all is OK..
I really suggest you play with that software IF you have more than 1 PC.. of any OS...
enjoy

I'm afraid I'm with Devil in that it is not a bug per see with Workshop, but an incompatibilty problem. Unless Ulead say it will work with this set-up then it is not a bug.
I use WS with 2 pc's and a kvm and find the keyboard shortcuts for swapping from one pc to another will stop certain things from happening, one of which is the find chapter points automatically.
I'm suspect this will be something you have to learn to live with.

it's fine, I'm not offended for you guys 'taking sides' with each other
I'm sure sooner or later someone with some VNC knowledge will add some insight.. until then, yes, sure I learned to live with it.. have an extra keyboard!! but just to re-iterate, the problem happens *right* away as you launch the product.. (non of Ulead's other products exhibit this) you have NOTHING open, no project, no rendering, no menus, no nothing.. just launch , and it's incompatible with VNC.. so.. if two programs are incompatible you look at the friendliness of them and in this case it's not reasonable not to be compatible, considering that *ALL* other Ulead stuff works great w/vnc...
At any rate.. I think we had enough posts from non-VNC users, it's time to let the VNC (win2vnc) users a chance to add stuff...
great week and thanks for your time folks!

That's a lot of money for something thats basically a polished version of Win2Vnc or X2Vnc (
By that argument, Windows XP is really just a polished version of Linux. And Linux is free. I mean sure, Win2VNC may be far less responsive, harder to set up, disconnect randomly, not be usable in anything that's a real time app (i.e. don't try playing a game with it), may not have file copying support or a host of other things. But it's free so...
There are programs that are "cool" to show for your friends that you uninstall as soon as they leave and there are programs that are designed for serious use all the time. Multiplicity is the latter.

It may be due to the fact that WS is one of the oldest, or maybe even the oldest programme in the Stable, so when they get around to updating it - hopefully!!!! - they may address this issue.stormy1777 wrote:it's not reasonable not to be compatible, considering that *ALL* other Ulead stuff works great w/vnc...

ok , ok, sjj1805, thank you deeply for the links.. all I needed was the pointer to Synergy.. that was enough.. To point to a forum posting problems with a product.. well.. what is this forum about? I'm sure it's not all posting saying WOW this is great, menus are working, no cryptic error messages.. etc..
so, I downloaded the Synergy.. and WOW.. I'm impressed.. so.. like the second link you had there I think.. I've been a loyal vnc user, for several years, but I just switched.. and I'm very happy.. everything that worked before still works, i.e. cut/paste, etc. AND the workshop problem is FIXED.. so synergy is compatible with workshop.. (yes, Skier-hughes, you are right, it's old software.. but from what I can see, its the ONLY one worth paying for on their website.. the only one that can do what I need, simple full control,..) still battling with it NOT re-encoding my clips, but that's for another topic..
in summary: synergy + dvdworkshop work perfectly together , i still use vnc for remote computer control, and synergy JUST for local keyboard/screen management...
thank you a million to everyone who participated.. amazing how we started out in a small battle, which eventually brought a solution!!!!
hopefully this will help others in my footsteps.
regards.

I personally do not use VNC, but as I know DVD WorkShop is been tested with Norton pcAnywhere and is OK with pcAnywhere.
Some Ulead people also use WinVNC to test problems because the testers and the engineers are not in the same office and I never heart of problems from them about DVDWS.
Maybe there is something else wrong?

the problem is with *win2vnc* not with just winvnc.. it allows you to control multiple computers with 1 keyboard/mouse.. you still run the winvnc server, but the client becomes win2vnc.
I'm now using synergy and it works OK.. (although there is some incompatibility with pine email client.. but you can't win it all.. filed a bug w/the synergy folks.. lets hope it gets fixed.)
thanks.
