can vs use an ip camera as a connection instead of a dv camera?
i have seareche for an answer and i do not find one. any help would be greatly appreciated

It can see a webcam connected to the computer.
If you mean a remote webcam I think you're going to be struggling.

In a word, yes. I have a small one attached permanently via USB 2.0 to my computer (for use with Skype and a couple of other things). But I can select it in the capture pane of VS 9 or 10 (as well as my TV capture card or either of my two digital video cameras when they are connected). In fact, I just did so and its works fine.

The quality of your capture, though, will of course depend on the quality of your web/ip camera. As you would be aware, most of them have fairly low resolutions, so don't expect miracles. You will probably also find that you cannot capture DV format on it. Mine, though, will allow me to capture uncompressed AVI and mpeg formats.
