Video Studio Refuses To Start

Post by Reaver »

Hi,

I'm having trouble running Video Studio. When I try to start it up, the hardrive starts to load something but nothing happens on the screen and the hdd stops loading. I've tried the full version and the trial and it's still the same, any ideas? I've scanned the hdd ad ram for viruses and spyware, all clear. I've closed everything down that I don't use and it's still the same

Windows Media Center (SP2)
1gb RAM
Radeon x800xt (256mb)
Hercules Digifire 7.1 Soundcard
Athlon64 4ghz CPU

Having a Trial Version and it's full version on the computer at the same time has been known to cause conflicts.

Please uninstall both versions

And then install the Full version. Please reply if still having problems.

If that doesn't work, try adding Videostudio to the DEP (Data Execution Prevention) exception list.

I installed the full version first and it wouldn't start so I uninstalled it first before I tried the trial version and the problem was still there

I've also tried adding it's exe to the DEP and it's still giving me the same problem  Anyone got any other ideas I could try? If not, it seems I'll be going back to my older version

Just to satisfy my curiosity have you installed your operating system on the "C" drive and have you also installed VideoStudio to the "C" drive.

Although installing onto another partition is not theoretically supposed to cause problems I have seen posts in this forum where installing elsewhere has in fact caused problems.

Can we also assume you have Administrator rights on your computer? Another possibility -- though this usually relates to another common problem -- have you tried starting a new account (with Administrator rights) and installing VS to work in that account?

Yes, Windows is installed on the root drive(c) the same as Video Studio and my user account is the computer administrators account so I'm just as baffled as everyone else :?

Thank you to everyone who has replied to my post, it's really appreciated. It's looking a bit gloomy so I may have to revert to the older VS. Shame because V10 sounded pretty nice

Hi Beaver, I have been coming to this forum for a while so I decided to join. I had the same problem that you are having. I also had a problem with Sony Vegas6 loading right. I decided after doing everything I could think of to just do a full format. After installing the OS and getting all the updates the next thing I installed was the two Video program. Now they are working perfect. I know this is a pain in the buttocks and it took me about three days to get my system back to where it was it was well worth it. I also noticed my system seem to work better....Mike

Try Checking Windows Event Log for error messages:

To check the windows Event Log:-
START | RUN dialog box
%SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s
and press enter.
Now check the following two folders
Application
System

You will find a red circle with a white cross inside. Double click to open it and there you will find a link
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
This link also contains some hidden code apertaining to your error.
Double click and you will then be given more detailed information and possible cures.

I think a format may be my only option but I'm in no rush, windows is running perfectly with everything else so that'll be my last resort.

sjj1805-I've ran that and checked the errors and I have about 6 but only 3 are application errors and they are relating to explorer.exe but they happened on different dates. I even tried to start Video Studio again just before I ran that and that didn't even show up. The box asking for the serial or press try for the trial came up but then nothing

What were the 6 errors?

Try the following

Start | Run | SFC /Scannow
http://www.updatexp.com/support-files/scannow-sfc.pdf

If that doesnt fix it
Start | Run | chkdsk / R
http://www.pegasus-afs.com/eSupport/using_CHKDSK.htm

Beaver, I agree with ya on the formatting. I hate to do it also. It takes me about 4 hours just to get Flight Simulator all installed..lol. I have found out in the past that 95% of software problems end up with other software having conflict. Most customers think it is a hardware problem, but after you format for them they have a full understanding of it. Have ya ever installed a program or downloaded a trial program then didn't like it or decide that you didn't want to buy it then uninstall it? Well even after you remove it 100% you can still go into your program folder and there are still pieces left in there. You can also go into your registry and yes there are piece left there too. By the time you find all the left over dlls and other shares dlls and remove them then you start to see other programs that start to act or not run right after you remove left overs from old programs. I have found in the long run to invest in another hard drive and as you load programs back it up to that hard drive...the ones ya wanna keep. When you do a format now all ya gotta do is do a drop and drag from one hard drive to the other. Formatting is cut in half.....Mike
