Photo Impact Pro Nightmare

Post by jlcabral »

I just used PC Relocator to move everything from an old PC to a new one. I have PhotoImpact Pro and PhotoImpact 10 installed, also PI4 - yes, I've used the program that long (also have 5,6,7,and 8).

Both Pro and 10 are working just fine on my new computer. However, whenever I boot the machine, Pro wants the Installation CD, which I cannot find for the life of me. I have to go thru 8 screens to Cancel all the attempts to Install something :-(

I have tried to remove the program via Control Panel - that brings up the same screen wanting the Install program. I have tried removing the entire Nova Development Folder from Program Files, but it still wants the installer on boot up. I have tried installing 8, no help.

Does anyone have ANY idea how to solve this problem? I would sincerely appreciate any help!

This sounds like an entry in the windows registry
Try checking

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
And also
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

If nothing can be found in there then try
Run | MSConfig
And check the entries in the various tabs.

Thanks so much, Steve!

I didn't find anything in the registry, but did disable Windows Installer in the Services Tab in Msconfig and that fixed the problem. Now to remember to turn it back on if I need it for some other program!

Thanks again. Jan
