I have to create training DVDs. I'm using MSP8. I've got screen captures AVIs at 644x484 that I have used VirtualDub to resize to 644x480 and add a black border to take them to 720x480. There's not any important information at the top and bottom of the screen.
The screen captures contain web forms with a lot of horizontal lines. There is horible flicker from these lines when the DVD is show on a TV. I read somewhere that deinterlacing might help with line flicker. (I new to this whole world of video, so I'm still trying to understand how everything relates) I set deinterlacing under the advanced options of the mpeg creation and it removed a great deal of the flicker how ever you can't read the text on the screen now.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to clean up the flicker in the video and still be able to read the text?
I think I have a basic grasp of why it's flickering and why deinterlacing helped, but made the text unreadable.
newbie needs help!!!
Why did you choose such an odd format as 644 x 484? Surely you could have chosen a standard size. You should also choose the largest zooming possible in your captured display, so that the thinnest line takes up at least three pixels (before capture). As screen capture is not interlaced, you should capture non-interlaced (rather than deinterlace afterwards.
It takes a good deal of patience and skill to do this kind of job properly. I know, I've tried to do it for a printed circuit software and the results were not brilliant.

Devil,
Thanks for the reply.
I used HyperCam to do the screen capture and it directly creates an AVI. I don't think the AVI's are interlaced. The only AVI option HyperCam gives is a frame rate option. the 644x484 is because I just selected the area I needed and that's what it ended up being. The screen was zoomed as much as it could be.
I'm learning as I'm going with this thing, which makes for some slow going most of the time.

I'm using DVDLab to create the DVD layout and it complains about Open GOPs. I found settings for GOP structure under Options... -> Compression -> Advanced -> Video Settings I changed Closed GOP every: from zero to one and that made DVDLab happy, but I'm not sure why this is necessary, so I don't know if I made the best choice for the setting.
Another related question:
Do you know if there is any way to make these output settings stick? Every time I go to create a new video, they've changed and I have to change them back.
