Finding & deleting duplcate JPEG's

Post by The Old Timer »

Since I do a lot of video editing I have several drives on my PC & some of these are partitioned. From time to time I had had to move 'my pictures' file from one location to another.

It's obvious that at some time I stuffed things up, because I find that I have most but certainly not all pictures in 2 or more locations. What I am wondering is if there is some easy way to have all of mt photos sorted through, have duplicates identified & then be able to consolidate my picture files once all duplicates have been removed? I do have a utility that can identify duplicate files but I can't seem to get it to work over several drives.

I use a utility called Powerdesk Pro 6 available at:

http://www.v-com.com/product/PowerDesk_Pro_Home.html

It has a real nice file finder that can span drives. You can do a find on say "*.jpg" and (it will take a while) then it will list all the jpg files on the drives or paths you selected (before clicking "find".) The nice thing is, you get an explorer type listing but also by selecting a file, you can hit F9 and get a view of the file.

So you can compare file sizes, dates, and views. You can then, without leaving the list, delete or copy the desired files.

Finding & deleting duplcate JPEG's - AcuteFinder

Post by lazael »

AcuteFinder helps you to find duplicate files on your system and delete them. The trial won't allow you to delete big files - use explorer to delete them once found !
Note- it is a fast but not failsafe detector as it merely uses a checksum value as a decider. View the file in explorer first - a 'flipped/rotated' picture in another folder has the same checksum and date as the original !

Thanks OT, that looks like a great little app, and Lord knows I need it...:)
