mosaic/pixelated effect in playback

Post by markoz »

the image captured comes out with a blurry mosaic effect especially on fast movement from subjects or quick pans - it plays back fine from the camera but not when going through Ulead VS 9 - look forward to some advice

Thanks for the prompt advice Vidoman - Ill fill in the info required.
The field looks right - lower - look forward to working this one out.
I've used Ulead since VS 7 and have completed some great projects withinin my role as IT/Multimedia Support Teacher in several Special Education settings.
Using Ulead we've researched and developed Digital Portfolios for students requiring specialised support for intellectual impairment - anyway better get back to this problem ...

I had a similar issue a few years back, and having exhausted all other options, I upgraded my video card and doubled the amount of RAM. I never saw the problem again.

Also, does this problem occur when viewing the preview screen, or a finished DVD? The preview screen will give you a very low quality picture, especially on fast action or pans. If all your properties are correct the finished product will look fine once burned to DVD.

mosaic and blurry playback

Thanks TDK1044 upgrading is a possibility - however I also still have
VS 8 installed and when I capture using that the picture is good so I think it has to be a property setting I have wrong in VS 9.
Thanks Black Lab - the picture is of the same poor quality when burned to DVD - so it's not just a preview window thing.
I would welcome any further input out there folks - thanks!!!

Are you capturing DV format? If so, check which encoder type you are using -- we normally recommend Type 1 here as Type 2 causes a lot of people, particularly with less powerful computers, some problems including jerky or otherwise poor video capture. To check, on the Capture page, click on the Options cogwheel icon. For some reason, VS installs Type 2 as the default.

Sincere thanks to you all for posting possible solutions.
Ken, Type 1 was chosen however you prompted me to check the capture format box - it had DVD checked instead of DV which I then changed to DV. I still wonder whether this was actually the problem but it`s the only thing I've done which worked well for me. I'd be interested to know the reason behind the capture format being the cause of the problem if that is in fact the case.
So thankyou again to Ken, Terry, Jeff and Ron. :D
