I have a Sony DCR-TRV38 connected to my PC via a Fire Wire port.

Hi James,

Well we could speculate on this, but then instead of doing that, could you please give us a little more to work with?

1. Are you capturing, or do have a mono audio codec set in VS?

2. You have only 1 speaker hooked up?

3. Since you are using a Sony DCR-TRV38, which is a digital 8 camcorder, and you are capturing using firewire, we can rule out analogue capture. Are you capturing DV/AVI, or some MPEG format?

4. Have you tried another segment of video, perhaps from another tape to see if the problem is still there?

Thank you..

Actually Jeff it's worse than it looks.
The original post in this thread is the guy's answer to a question asked by someone on the OTHER thread that he started for this problem.

I am capturing to DV/AVI. I have tried it on two different computers and get the same result. I am capturing to DV type 2 not type 1. I get no sound on type 1. The capture works just fine with Roxio Easy Media Creator 8.0 so I know it's not my hardware, sound card, video card, video camera, or my computer. It is clearly some setting I have wrong in UVS.

Does the video captured with Roxio play back the audio when imported into VS?

There is also something puzzling about this since normally, capturing Type 1 DV is the recommended format, and it is Type 2 which causes a lot of people trouble.

Could it be that in the audio mixing panel with" Duplicate audio
channel" selected that one of the channels have been muted ?

Yes, it does play back perfectly. That's what is puzzling me.

This sounds like the most logical thing yet. Where is the duplicate audio channel muting option located? Is this a setting in UVS or is it something with my sound card? If it's related to my sound card I hunted all over and can't find anything like you mentioned.

Ok, i had a similiar problem and it was due to the disc template (in SHARE, CREATE DISC) i had selected burning the DVD as a Dolby digital 5.1 soundtrack where the original file to be burned was only a 2 ch stereo file. The end result was the sound only came out of the RH speaker after being burned to a DVD.

Maybe worth a shot just checking this ?

Go - audio step tab at top of screen click
Audio view (speaker icon at bottom left) click
Make sure in project mode
In options panel tick “duplicate audio channel”
Make sure L or R is not selected

Kenneth,

How did you manage to select duplicate audio channel, and not have L or R selected? I've played with this for sometime. The L and R are radio buttons and are automatically invoked when you select the Duplicate... I've tried with just the audio in the video, splitting the audio, and then with an audio track imported to the timeline. Still the same results.

Hi Ron,
I hope I have not misled any one.I was replying from memory
and as far as I know,if"duplicate audio channel" is selected in
VS9 and either the L or R radio button is checked there will
be audio from only one channel, is that not the case?

Hi Ken,

I had to try it out to see if in fact it was possible to duplicate the audio, and not have either the Left or Right selected. However when you check the Duplicate box, one or the other (L / R) is automatically invoked. There is no way to deselect them..
