NTSC to PAL

Post by dbz2000 »

Hello Forum!
Just a few questions: I authored a DVD for a friend of mine in NTSC since he lives here in the U.S. He wants to take the DVD to India to show to family and friends. I believe India is a PAL country for DVD media. I still have the Mpg file I used for the original DVD.

(1) Can I render this file as a PAL DVD that will play in India?
(2) If so, what will I need to know or be aware of in the process?
(3) Is there a way I can test it here before giving it to him to show in India?

Any assistance in this matter will be greatly appreciated. Ron P., if you are reading this, I hope Ulead has sent your copy of VS10+. If they have not - shame, shame, shame on them

DBZ,
It is quite common thses days for PAL DVD players to be able to handle NTSC DVD's and this is by far the best solution to the problem.
However if you want to be sure then let your friend take the NTSC one to India and also make him a back-up PAL version.

Just load the NTSC MPEG into the burning module and set the properties for a PAL DVD. Keep the bitrate the same and use Dolby audio, just change the frame size to 720x576 and the frame rate to 25fps.
VS, when doing an NTSC to PAL conversion, actually doesn't do such a bad job.

Thank you lancecarr for your very quick and helpful reply. I kind of thought that you could do it the way you described; but I wasn't certain if there were things I needed to pay attention too, like changing the fps.
I will give it a try tomorrow after work. Thanks again! Peace and be blessed!
