I've been buying downloadable versions of PI since version 6. Recently, I purchased a new computer. I stored a copy of my latest, XL, to a portable harddrive. I installed it to my new computer. Now, some functions do not seem to work. For example, under effects, some tools only have partial functionality. I can sharpen by selecting one of the predetermined boxes, but I can't use options. Other tools just don't show up when I click on them. Do I need to do a totally new download of version 11? I had thought about buying the upgrade, but this might not restore the minor problems. So, should I wipe my computer clean and download the latest version?

Hi Larry, and welcome to the forums..
Unless you are wanting to upgrade I don't think that it should be neccessary. What we can try to do is find out what the problem is with your PI XL and fix it.
Start off with completing your system information in your profile please. That helps us to see if there may be something with your setup that might cause problems. Besides, you bought a new computer so brag it up...
When you stored your last copy of PI XL did you store all the files needed, such as extra content? Did you receive any errors while installing?
I don't know if this applies to PI as much as it does to Ulead's video editing apps, but you might try disabling your antivirus and firewall while installing.
When you installed, did you install from the portable hard drive? You could try copying the file(s) to an internal harddrive, and installing from there.
Lastly if all else fails, you could upgrade...

My computer is nothing special, but I got a good deal on it. Motherboard? I have no idea. What I have is a Dell Inspiron 9300 notebook with an Intel Pentium M 1.73 processor. 1 gb of memory, 80 gb harddrive. ATI Radeon X300 video card with 128mb.
I transferred the whole program to my external drive, then transferred it all back to my new computer. It was very large. I had no install issues. Reentered my key and all worked fairly well, with the exception of a few tools. I beleive I had this problem once before while updating to version 7? I finally had to reinstall version 6, which I had on cd from ulead. I might just go ahead and purchase the latest version to hopefully solve the problems. I'm pretty good and doing stuff when it works, but fixing little problems such as these, well, I'm no good. Thanks for the reply.

If that is what you want to do, go ahead. You don't need to buy the full version though, an upgrade will do nicely. Even the upgrade is a full version and does not need any of the qualifying version to be installed. All you need, at time of installation, is the serial number of your qualifying product, in your case PI XL.
