DV to MPEG2 split by scene possibility?

Post by sxdcfv »

Can I split by scene when capturing DV from my camcorder to MPEG2 on the hard drive or does the split by scene only work when saving as DV-AVI? THanks. Dennis

BUT -- again AFAIK -- once you have captured a single file in mpeg-2, you can set it to split that captured file.

Never tried that Ken, but, AFAIK, you lose your time stamp when converting to mpeg, how would VS know where to split the file?

Hi

Split by scene is available from the timeline when using Mpeg files.
Although Mpeg does not have a timestamp as Dv-Avi it uses frame content to identify the changes.

It does work

I happily stand corrected.

I personally don't capture to mpeg for editing and, hence, have never used the split function with mpeg. As it stands, I don't use it with DV-AVI from the time line either. I already split while capturing.

I do the same, Heinz -- capture digital video in DV format and use split by scene during the capture. However, with my analogue capture card, I have no alternative but to capture to DVD-compliant mpeg-2 (and luckily my computer can handle this). But the only way to split this by scene is after the capture...
