Upon checking DVD +R blank disks I came across Verbatim's that has a product spec that I have not heard before: "Advanced AZO recording dye optimizes read/write performance". Is this "Advanced Azo recording dye" something new or it has always been the case?
Would appreciate any info whether or not this would make the disk better than those without this product spec. Thanks, HTan

Do you have one handy?
If so check what the manufacturer ID is using Nero Infotool, CD-DVD Speed or any other utility that will reveal the real manufacturer. As far as I know Verbatim don't actually manufacture DVDs so the discs will most likely come from a known manufacturer.
To be honest the blurb you mentioned sounds like marketing more than anyhting else.

The dye they are talking about is a deep blue and Verbatim claim -- at least they did when I first saw their use of AZO in CDs about 5 or 6 years ago, that it is a 'proprietary Metal AZO recording dye' which gives 'superior resistance to UV radiation', '100 years archival life' and 'lower error rate' (all taken from a box of Verbatim discs which I just happen to have in my office here at home). While it got good reviews at the time, it is now more common on other discs and, as has already been said, largely marketing hype...

Thanks lancecarr, THoff and Ken for your responses.
No, I haven't bought that particular advertised DVD +R yet. I found this spec listed on MicroCenter website. I was just browsing because I wanted to buy some more. I do have a spindle of Verbatim's 16X's, that I bought a few mongths ago, but this does not have the "AZO ...." spec on the label. I had checked the Verbatim that I have with NeroCD-Speed and the disk were manufactured by MKM.
Thanks again,
HTan
