Sound Dropped 48 Mins Into Capture

Post by Jim Biancolo »

Hi folks,

Just trying the eval version of VS10+. I was capturing from miniDV to VCD via Firewire and it was going great. I watched for about 10 minutes of the 70 minute recording, then left satisfied that all was well. Upon my return and subsequent review, discovered that at around 48 minutes VS stopped capturing sound. It just drops suddenly and never comes back. The remainder of the video is captured, however.

Any ideas as to what might cause this? WinXP Pro SP2, nice dual core P4 machine, lots of RAM and disk space. Only thing running was VS.

Thanks!

Jim

When you play the captured video file using Windows Media Player, does the equalizer show movement or not? Did the audio stop at the beginning of a new recording segment, or in the middle of one?

No movement on the Windows Media Player equalizer after the sound drops out. The audio stopped in the middle of a segment (the whole tape is one long segment - I was filming my daughter's play). I don't know if this matters or not, but when I watch the playback closely, I can notice a *very* subtle flicker in the video just as the audio cuts out.

How about capturing the segment with the small hiccup using another program like WinDV or CaptureFlux to see if the problem is with VideoStudio or the tape/camcorder?

Good idea. Although first I tried just re-capturing the minute or so where the sound drops to see if VS dropped it again in the same spot. It captured it without a problem. So then I tried capturing the whole tape again, and this time it worked. Mysterious. Sorry to take up your time!
